While it is certainly true that Ubuntu Linux is safer than Windows, it is unfortunately true that Dell's customer support and service for computers sold with Ubuntu Linux is totally inadequate and unacceptable. My own advice (as a sadder but wiser, former Dell customer) is buy a computer from somebody with a good reputation for hardware tech support (I chose HP, but YMMV); make sure the machine boots up, and all components work; let it run (without connection to the internet) for three or four days, (to catch late-blooming problems without eliminating the possibility of tech support from people who are unfamiliar with Linux); install Kubuntu on the WHOLE DRIVE (thereby removing windoze). You will be a satisfied customer.
