Interesting. The solidarity of the Ubuntu community is not so solid, at least when it comes to the major change to GDM in Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. See the comments at Changing the gdm theme? (9.10). I upgraded my Ubuntu Jaunty to Karmic this evening, and was I surprised to find that the ability to change the GDM Theme, which was a simple thing in Jaunty, was removed in Karmic. I guess the new and upcoming mantra for Ubuntu is "We aren't Burger King - You can't have it your way."
