It's time to STOP the madness!

What "madness"? That being proposed by this brain dead Microsoft manager here.

    Huh.

"You could say it's a public safety issue..."

You could also say that about Microsoft!

I'm now waiting to see which bribed Congressman will put forward such a bill... >

Just when you thought you'd seen it all. I'm afraid to ask, What next?

What are all these bailouts then? A way for giant corporations to pick your pocket and rob your children of their future, IMHO. The republic they founded has been dead a long time as far as I can tell. The USA has already become a socialist nation in many respects, even if not in name.

There are already plenty of reasons to hate spam and spammers without considering the environmental impact of resources consumed to distribute it. It has been driving me insane for a long time now that any email address I share with my family will be bombarded with spam. I just can't stand it, but I also can't completely cut ties with my family.

Let's review some facts which every American should know, and most do:
The Founding Fathers apparently didn't understand parts of their own Declaration, Constitution and its Bill of Rights. "All (White) men were created equal" is what they meant, if their actions are any measure. It took 200 years, a civil war, an Equal Rights Amendment, and lots of additional strife to reach a climate where a Black man could be elected to the office of POTUS. The American Indians still own 3/4ths of Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, and the Dakotas and refuse to accept the $10B "buyout" Congress offered them after they won a Supreme Court decision validating our treaties with them, all of which (52 IIRC) we violated preemptively. During WWII there was a real danger in this country from German/Fascist spies, even to the point of attacking and blowing up ammunition plants and other war time facilities IN THIS COUNTRY, yet we put over 100,000 NATURAL Americans citizens of Japanese ancestry in concentration camps, behind barb wire, guarded by tanks and machine guns, and allowed their White neighbors to steal their homes and property. Our modern "Fathers" know (or care) little of the intents of our "Founding" Fathers. Our Founding Fathers voted for and spent public funds to establish Christian schools for the training of ministers of the Gospel. Those schools included Harvard and Yale. Today's "Fathers" think that the founding Founding Fathers built what amounts to a Berlin Wall to restrain the freedoms of Christians in America. Somehow, Americans are so stupid that they cannot tell the difference between Congress passing a law "respecting" a religion and a School board "permitting" a child to read their Bible on a bus, at lunch, or write papers about their religion. But, it's OK to allow the kids to practice Wican, Jewish or African rituals in class, for grades. Diversity isn't so diverse. And the idea that a school board has the right and power to restrict what the Constitution grants ("free exercise there of") is an abomination.

Thankfully, in June of 2008, the Supreme Court struck down the idea that the 2nd Amendment didn't apply to individuals, as our modern "Fathers" have been claiming for the last half century.

The bailouts? Didn't you notice? They were nothing but HUGE bonuses to the "Titans" of wall street for their work in bankrupting America. It just goes to show how much of the US government is owned lock, stock and barrel by the corporations. My community is not as bad off as Detroit, which has 25% unemployment, but about the only jobs available are those minimum wage part-time jobs offered by Walmart, Shopko, McDonalds and other clerking jobs. Why part-time? The corporations can affoid offering benies, paid vacations, or health insurance, unless you are willing to work 60-70 hours per week at the same rate but with a title of "manager". The technical jobs are being filled by H1B imports who work for much less than the American techs they REPLACED.

http://www.computerworld.com/s/artic...nimize_layoffs -- Microsoft to use H1B imports to replace the American coders they lay off...

I believe this points up a conclusion I arrived at several years ago. MOST large corporations in America are NO LONGER AMERICAN corporations, yet their lobbyists and "campaign contributions" a.k.a. bribes, control the bills and voting in both houses. The control our government and it doesn't seem to matter whom one votes for. Our citizens are too busy with their drugs, porn and welfare checks to take notice.

We've had the 4th worst winter and snowfall in our recorded history. Potholes have torn up the streets. About every block has pieces of undercarriage laying in the road. My city can't afford to fill them all and we certainly can't afford to repave the streets. Our infrastructure is falling apart. If it is worse in other places, and I think it is, then America is rapidly sliding out of 1st World status into 2nd World status.

And Microsoft's management thinks that America should pay for its shoddy practices. I can see their point of view... we already paid for their development of Windows. Read point number six.

No doubt any tax money will be funneled to M$, as they know best how to deal with viruses.
I wonder if politicians know how to use computers, or do they just do what the man with the money tells them to.

You are just wrong about this point. If that's really your opinion then I've lost some measure of respect for you. I am not willing to have this debate, especially not here.

I find little else to quarrel over in your statements.

As someone who used to be a conservative Republican, and a Ditto Head, I've had that nonsense about "one person, one vote" beaten out of me after 50 years of watching Congress in action. Right now, in this country, money talks, everything else walks.

Pres. Obama was elected by an overwhelming majority of voters, who also gave the Democrats an unbeatable majority in both houses. He campaigned on Universal Health care, among other changes. That was the wish of the large majority of voters. One could sense that Universal Health care was close, but it appears not to be. I've come to expect the Republicans to ask their corporate masters how to vote, but even members of his own party took their bribes and looked the other way. So now, 1 out of 3 Americans are without health insurance and just waiting for their next medical emergency to put them into bankruptcy and out onto the streets.

Re: It's time to STOP the madness!

I'm not surprised at Microsoft's suggestion. I highly doubt they will get it, though. Apple has lobbyists, too. Among other reasons of course. Detroit is suffering the way for two reasons that set it apart from most other parts of America. It's job markets weren't diversified and is essentially a car manufacturing town so when they started shedding market share to foreign car companies, the town suffered badly. The other is too much union power that prevents the companies from being as flexible enough to cope with competitive pressures. Also, the unions may drive up wages for union members, but they drive up unemployment and drive down wages for nonunion workers. Universal health-care insurance? Insurance is the problem, not the solution. If either party were truly committed to health-care market reform, they'd stop toying with insurance where only a small amount of the price increases come from. The biggest thing they could do to improve things is pass a law making it illegal to charge individuals any more than insurance covered care. That would send the price of uninsured care plummeting by more than half it's current price. Maybe much more. Insurance premiums might rise slightly, but not much, if at all. On second thought, it might actually lower insurance premiums, but I don't know. It would probably take a team of economists and a couple years of research to get a good idea of the effect.
