    Re: A new convert!

I'm in Terre Haute, home of ISU, where I go to school.

I think Qt is going to fit me well, it seems to be "easier" than the others. I'll remember what you said about Perl, and Python.

This post is short, I need to get some homework going or I never will. LOL I'm really good at procrastination.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions!!

I'll see into some melatonin as well, lol. I need sleep!!

Terre Haute ... home of ISU (lots of friends went there) and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (where I did my B.S. in math) and St Mary of the Woods College (formerly referred to as the untouchables back in 1967-71) and, Terre Haute, home of my high school sweetheart (who still lives there).

        Hey Lisa,
Thought you might be interested in this URL, which came in today on the qt developer's mailing list:

        http://qt.gitorious.org/qt/pages

There is even documentation on the use of "git", the version control system used by QtCreator (and the Linux kernel, since Linus himself wrote it in a weekend! )

          Re: A new convert!

Thanks Grey! Looking at the link right now! I appreciate that.

Linus is awesome, I've been wanting to find an email addy for him to thank him for Linux, but I know he's busy and what-not and don't want to bug him. I didn't realize he wrote the entire Linux kernel in one weekend, that's amazing.

I appreciate you taking an interest in me, that' very kind and appreciated.

QQ...I tried to get into RH...had to settle on ISU, which is still a good school, but pales in comparison to RH.

It's cool that you're familiar with TH, I talk to people online often and most , when I mention that I live here are like "where??" LOL

            .....
The last I heard his "official" email address was: <a href="mailto:torvalds@osdl.org">...@osdl.org</a>. Except for his secret email addresses about the only elist you'll see him on is the linux kernel developers list. I read an interview he gave in which is said that he gets thousands of emails a day, but filters throw away all but a hundred or two. I can't find that link right now but here is a FAQ about Linus.

One of the reasons he is hard to reach is that Windows fanbois and trolls flood any suspected list with trash talk and such. Any email you send would more than likely be filtered out and never reach his eyes.

              First...Welcome!

I too, made that switch when HedgeHog was released. Migrated to Kubuntu quickly. The switch was easy for me due to my background as well. I still have an XP partition I boot into due to a few tools I have to use for work. The great thing about that is I can't wait to reboot back into Kubuntu. My coding days ended due to a different job path. I do miss coding. Again, Welcome!

I always smile when I see the name of that fair town. Where I grew up in Ohio, there's a tiny village also named Terre Haute. However, the local pronunciation of the place is "Terry Hut", with emphasis on the first syllable. I don't think I was even out of high school before I realized how awfully it was distorted from it's French origins.

We have a couple of Rose-Hulman grads at my work -- they're good.

                    Hey Dible.

I love Terre Haute, except when the Colts come to Rose Hulman and the traffic becomes a nightmare. I usually try to stay home during they're stay here. I don't have a problem with them, but they have a brand new monstrosity of a stadium in Indy, why can't they practice there and use the thing?

Oh well..I'm not into sports, so I guess I wouldn't "get it".

                    Rose Hulman is awesome!

I didn't know there was a Terre Haute in Ohio, that's cool. Some of the people here have odd ways of pronouncing it too, lol.

It really is a great city/town, in my eyes.

                      Re: A new convert!

Terre Haute has quite a colorful history, too. During prohibition and the gangster days in Chi Town, there was a straight line between the two cities, well traveled at that.

Yess Qq, that's true, I did know that, that and the former "working girl" population, lol. There used to be quite a lot of that going on here from what I have been told and read. People have to make a living somehow I suppose, lol.

Dibl...sorry about the 'e" I added to your name previously! I meant to mention that Larry Bird also has a museum of sorts here, I had "dribble" in my head for some reason, as that's what you with a B-ball, lol.

bastard_lunatic, when I was in TH during HS & college, there was an old-fashioned "red light" district, right off of Second & Cherry streets where first you saw an old, two-story hotel called Little Harlem. At least, that's what my friends told me.

When I was there (1966-1971), TH had "everything," including (at least one) full-service bookie joint (in an old, boarded-up, 1-story brick building) that ran book on the ponies and a few other things. So I was told ...
