it had a 200Gig SATA drive that was 1 resque partition ?? about 10 Gig Vfat and the rest NTFS for windows XP in that order.

So I first half to get by the fact that my nephews thought thay'd have some fun and onley have 1 passworded login avalabel..................but some F8 and safe moad got me a Administrator login

now it's remove the old acct.'s and add mine...........then run chkdsk................now defrag................wate.........wate.........OK now it's the gparted livecd and shrink the NTFS partition down to 30Gig's .....(It wouldent be hear at all but the wifey want's it....SO....) then set up the rest like this
    vinny@desktop:~$ sudo parted

    well that should do it.
I'll EDEIT it when I test booting the resqu partition.

EDIT: grub did indeed let me boot the resque partition just fine.
