My first Linux distro was RH5.0 in May of 1998. In September of that year I switched to SuSE and purchased 22 boxed sets, abandoning it only after Novell purchased it.
In lieu of buying the distro I use, if none is offered for sale, I usually donate twice a year to it. But, I find this difficult to do using Kubuntu. Canonical does not include a "Donate" button but, in fact, PAY to ship you a copy of Ubuntu free of charge! They don't sell anything at their store.
The KubuntuForum is paid for by a generous donor who apparently won't accept donations.
So, I guess I will donate to KDE itself. They have a donation button on their site.

Have you tried contacting the Ubuntu Donations email address and finding out if you can donate through PayPal and specify that you want to support Kubuntu development specifically? (Canonical does pay people to work in Kubuntu AFAIK).
A little overstated... it's just a selected radio button, with gnome sitting there right beside it during install, versus say someone installing ubuntu and then later having to install kde-desktop.

I appreciate that you are trying to donate, your heart really is in the right place
I looked for a button like that on the Kubuntu pages but couldn't find it. I guess it all goes into the same pot...

I consider my purchase of The Official Ubuntu Book to be a donation of sorts. Even if you do not need the book for yourself, you can make it a gift to someone who is new to Linux. It comes with a DVD for installing *buntu.
If you have the time, you can contribute directly to the project itself: How to help Kubuntu
