I'm using Kubuntu (06.10) as the common platform for daily work as well as VMware's Workstation - with the latter featuring serveral Debian and (K/X/"G")Ubuntu systems (amongst other things ...).
The point I'm driving at: you may want to install a default system for "regular usage" and confine any strange action (including your wife's behaviour, as applicable ...) to virtual machinery.
