skype and gaim? why arn't they combined

It realy puzzle me that there is no app like gaim that can also access the skype network.

what so diffrent about skype that make it inaccesable?

Think Kopete (I haven't used this feature myself)

They use the (free as in beer) interface for programmers, or API provided by Skype  (which is much more than msn or yahoo do):

The next major release after this one of Gaim (that is, 3.0) should have support for Skype/webcams etc. There was talk that gaim-vv (the webcam and sound-compatible fork of Gaim) would be included in 2.0 but alas, it was not.
