I just found this cool app that turns an old PC into a NAS. www.freenas.org
I set it up but have not go it fully work (ran out of time to work on) but it is really neat.
I did find that once it boots you need to hit the Ctrl+Alt keys to bring up the install menu. That took me about an hour to figure out. Then it took me another hour to connect to the network as I forgot I had dual mic cards and was using the wrong one for this network.
Has a great web inter face with tons of options like power saving (turn off HDs) and many more.
