I started with fedora 6 gnome. It got corrupted so I installed kde. After getting used to it I tried ubuntu. Then Kubuntu. I now dual boot ubuntu gnome and kde. I usually use kubuntu now. KDE just feels better to me.
Just down loaded Hardy kde 4. That will go into another partition so I can play without messing up the old stuff.
Thank you, who ever suggested a separate data partition and multiple distro partitions. Makes it easy to experiment without messing up my stuff.

Why have I picked and stuck with Kubuntu?
I wanted to try Linux,had a good look around and picked Ubuntu as it seems to be everywhere!
Gave it a good try and then just to see what KDE looked like I tried Kubuntu.

Amarok is excellent.Kaffeine was simple to setup using my TV card and just recorded TV programs with no trouble, I could never find an easy way in Ubuntu.

So I have stayed a Kubuntu user, I have tried other distros just to look but I always come back.
Since my last reinstall I no longer even dual boot with windows

I started my virus-free career with Slax (www.slax.org) - a small and fast KDE-dist easy suitable on an USB-drive. used it for Internet, bank transactions and chat, after a while I began to do my work on it also. I often using Kate and Kolourpaint for programming and detailed pixelizing and in other linuxes, I found no program suitable och efficient to do the work for me, I tried other small dists such as DSL and Puppy, but I often missed KDE's easy-used interface, at that time, Windoesn't XP needed for some games was still occupying my HD and I don't felt to have any dual boot.

I bought a new laptop recently. I thought, why not dedicate it only to linux, the choice was Ubuntu (most becase there was an small computer store nearby having demo computers running Ubuntu) but I almost inmediately switched to Kubuntu, maybe I am a bit lazy to learn how things works, I already are familiar to KDE and it's apps so I will continue with it.

Started with a local Brazilian distro, with KDE. Learned some Linux tricks there but later felt that something more standard would come in handy for easier support and troubleshooting. Ubuntu was it, however, i'm still loyal to KDE.

I started with Caldera Linux back in the mid nineties on KDE, (pre SCO takeover) I then progressed to Debian & as soon as Kubuntu came on the scene I was hooked! I now am IT manager & have migrated 150 users to Kubuntu (I tell Microsoft reps it was a upgrade) These days my laptop is always the current DEV Kubuntu & enjoy playing & testing the latest & greatest. I like the *buntu ethos & great folks on the forums

SuSE 9 series was the first distro that I ran "exclusively", but the 10 (openSUSE) series was filled with nothing but disappointment, especially when it came to package management... went back to XP for a time for that and other reasons.

When I started shopping for a distro again I was really impressed with how easily wine installed on kubuntu... no more struggling with wintetools (that and of course package management was 100x better).

I started out with Kubuntu 6.06 when at work I had a computer that ran Windows, but it had so many problems no one could stand to use the machine. Along comes Dapper Drake, and the Machine works perfectly, never had a problem. Recently, I've upgraded to Hardy Heron and KDE 3.5 and still there are no problems to speak of, other than a big dislike of KDE 4.0 (but that's beside the point).

I've used them all since 1999. Actually my fiorst experience with Linux was mklinux on a Macintosh 7100 in 1997, but I ran it for one day.

Then Debian became the king for me, but Kubuntu has KDE 4.1 so I defected. But I've used Kubuntu before, but always went back to Debian. I admit that I was only here for KDE 4.1 and then when Debian had it, which it does but in experimental, I would return. But Kubuntu is a really cool distro and has nice forums, I think I might just stay this time.

I run a mix of kubuntu and debian machines, currently
Debian stable on server
Debian unstable on desktop
Kubuntu Hardy on laptop

Coming from debian experience, kubuntu seems a nice mix of stability and fresh software (sort of between Debian stable and unstable), with a predictable release cycle.

I'd also recommend Sidux, which is kind of safer way to run Debian unstable, if one wishes an 'on the edge', rolling release, debian-based kde distribution.

I also currently run Arch linux on my test machine, and it seems very nice and fast, though it's a bit different from debian-based distributions...and a bit more 'geeky'.

Over a number of years I've tried most of the major and some less well known distros.
I wasn't very happy with most of them until Debian Etch and then Kubuntu 7.10 and now, of course, 8.04.

I agree very much with dax918 about the distribution of free CD's. I'm in Africa and until recently the download speed here was about 2kB/second. I bought Ubuntu 6.06 with a magazine and got 7.10 six months after ordering it but 8.04 came in two weeks! Amazing. Since then, the internet connection speed has improved and updating via adept is easy, but there are many people who haven't got a hope of downloading a CD image, another reason why *buntu encouraging copying and free distribution is great - more people get to know.

I've installed Kubuntu on a number of other people's computers and they all like it but want to do more and more and more - never satisfied.

Started off about 5 years ago using Ubuntu, since then I've lost track of which distro's I've tried until I finally stuck with dual booting Ubuntu & Arch with gnome (dual booted as Arch is my favourite but I like to keep an eye on new changes with ubuntu which is usually running the development version). I'd tried KDE before but never really liked it until KDE4 came out and I've now switched to Kubuntu & using KDE on Arch

Started with Kubuntu (my first linux distro) for about 2 months now. Have left windows 100% and after 16 years - don't miss it at all !
I have also been trying out other distros on a spare computer (too many to mention) but for me, none compare to kubuntu for what my needs are.
This has been a great experience for me ! My thanks to all who help develop this fantastic project

One more thing. Gnome is much too limiting - it lacks the ability for users to choose many options.
KDE gives users choices, the options to change things. Choice of programs to use to do a task, such as package manager, choice of browser, choice of file manager, etcetera, then within the programs, choice of settings, such as delete files, put into trash, ask for confirmation or not. Users appreciate setting programs to work the way they want them to work. Great.

When i decided that I wanted to get into linux i started asking some questions from various internet friends and (though i had done a lot of research, especially through wikpedia) they suggested i try out LiveCD's. Many people recommended Ubuntu because of its very large community and veritable ease of use.

I downloaded and tested the LiveCD's for Fedora, OpenSUSE, Mandriva, and Ubuntu(and obviously Kubuntu).

I didn't know much of the difference between GNOME and KDE until i had tried Kubuntu and Ubuntu. I basically decided in the end on a *buntu variant and then it was just about which i liked more. I decided on Kubuntu because GNOME reminds me too much of macs (im not a fan of Mac). And even though GNOME is designed to be simple and easy to use. KDE offered more versatility and power that i was looking for.

Since Intrepid Ibex is the only Buntu version ive used, KDE4.x was astonishing for me. And i really enjoy the design of how the entire desktop is a a Widget-Board. It somewhat redefined the desktop user space for me.

As well i like the native KDE apps more than GNOMES, For instance Amarok, KOffice (even though i love OpenOffice and use that on my windows machines).

I started with Suse 9.1 I think and apart from refusing to mount CDs and USB sticks I entered rpm hell and never got out of it. A friend of mine told me about Ubuntu and, himself being a KDE convert, said I should try Kubuntu. I've been using it on and off since, straying over to various guises of Debian and derivatives. Recently, however, I've become fed up with the idea of releases - just too much hassle for me.

So now I have two rolling release distros: ArchLinux on my desktop and Sidux on my T41 laptop. Mind, I'll be downloading 9.04 to see what goes

Oh, and only 11 days to KDE 4.2
