    Post your Setup...

    Mine:
    Desktop
    Gateway POS
    AMD64x2 3800+ (2.0GHz)
    4GB DDR2
    Nvidia 7900GS
    ~800GB HDD Space

    Laptop:
    Thinkpad R40
    Pentium-M (Centrino) 1.5Ghz
    2GB DDR
    160HDD
    ATI Mobility 9000

The desktop and laptop are linked together with Synergy which allows me to use the same Keyboard/Mouse combo with both machines and move my mouse between the 2 screens...kinda like a dual monitor setup, I just can't move apps from screen to screen (obviously) and with the advantage of each "screen" having it's own processing power...

Both are Running Kubuntu 7.10 (i386 on the Laptop and AMD64 on the Desktop)

              Re: Post your Setup...

My computer's way over due for an upgrade, but the last upgrade was all hand me down hardware from someone I don't talk to anymore, so I have to figure out where to come up with the money to buy new stuff. For now, this is what I have (best as I can remember, it's been a while since it's all been installed):

              Desktop
Home built and currently running Kubuntu Gutsy.
              • Pentium 4, 1.6GHz
              • ASUS P4S533 motherboard
              • 1GB RAM, two 512mb sticks
              • Dual monitors, both 17" CRT
                • nVidia card in the AGP slot
                • SiS in a PCI slot
              • two hard drives, both Seagate
                • 30GB* for /
                • 200GB for /home
              • LiteOn DVD-Rom drive
              • LiteOn LightScribe DVD Writer
              • Sound Blaster Audigy*
              • HP Deskjet 6122 (duplex printing <3)
              • Casio Exilim EX-Z50

I've been upgrading and using this computer since '01, and the two things marked with asterisks are the only components left from the original machine, in addition to one of the two CRTs. I've even replaced the case since then.

I hope to eventually upgrade the motherboard/processor and at least double the ram. When I'm able to replace one or more of the CRTs with LCDs, I'll also need a newer video card that'll support two monitors, or at least a motherboard that'll support two AGP or better video cards. I should probably be prepared to replace the 30GB drive soon, since it's been with me for almost seven years now, but it's a Seagate, so it might hold out for a while longer yet.

Edited to include printer and digital camera since I noticed others were including these in their specs lists.

                Re: Post your Setup...

                I have a Dell 4200
                Intel P4 2.8
                250 gig hard drive.
                1 gig ram
                GeForce FX5200
                22' LCD Display
                HP Deskjet 6540
                Nikon Coolpix S50 7.1

I have a little work to do to this machine. The fan for the CPU is loud and according to Dell's web site that was "normal" for this model, but an upgrade on the fan unit fixes it. I also want to bring the RAM to 2gig and upgrade the video card. But in due time, first need to get comfortable with running the program before I start adding to the mix.

                Cool topic.

                James
