At last, I have the things I want - or most of - installed on an old Fujitsu-Siemens S4572 Lifebook.
The installation was very much simpler and faster than installing Windows (did install Win2000 on a somewhat faster S6010 the same week.)
No need to find drivers - even the SMC WIFI card installed right aweay. After some time it finds the correct network by itself. If not, it's simpler to torrect than when the same card was used in Windows.
Much of what I need of programs is there.
What I would like is this:
A wizard that ask: Do you want to integrate with WIndows networking? (Offering installing samba).
THe same wizard also could ask if I wanted full Open Office (necessary to import language packs), and Automatix2.
And: The graphical samba install really isn't good enough - and the ideas on how to fix this is really hard to find_and_follow. Thanks ot UnicornRider I now am able to use the samba network, and I hope, extend the use a little. But really, it should not be necessary to edit smb.conf by hand when everything else is done so easy.
