    new repositories

    Hi everyone,
yesterday I saw that amarok 1.3.7 is available as a kubuntu package and that it is in the repository

    deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/amarok-1.3.7 breezy main

But why is it not put in the normal kubuntu repository?? I noticed this issue some time ago with some other packages (I think it was kde3.4.2) where the new packages were also put into a repository different from the normal one

deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde35 breezy main (ok kde3.4.2 does not fit into this repository, I know)

or is this not the general kubuntu repository?

I think it would be much more in the idea of the debian package system to use just one kubuntu repository (call it deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde breezy main) for each ubuntu release, where updated packages are put.

If there is any drawback with this idea let me know! If there already exists such a repository _please_ let me know!! I hate editing the sources.list file for every new version of a major program...

    cheers

Because the Breezy repositories were frozen after it was released. New packages will only go to Dapper. (Backports moves packages to Breezy tho)

I think it's better to have things separated so that the mirrors don't have to shift so much stuff around.

      Re: new repositories

Again, an old bloke asking a stupid question.

I added the KDE and Amarok links to my repositories and got the new versions.

Should I keep these in my repo's or disable them or get rid of them.

As long as they're the lastest ones keep them. (Fixes might come later on).

So the amarok packages are also available in the "official" backport repositories?

deb http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-backports main restricted universe multiverse

Or will they be put there in resonable time?

          regards

            No, they're not there: [ link ]

Probably not, because Breezy packages already exist at kubuntu, org .

              Re: new repositories

Is there any reason why Kubuntu.org cannot have a single repository for breezy updates?

I am guessing that anyone that is going to add one will most likely add all.

That way when the next update comes out for amaroK we all don't have to edit our sources.list again.

Perhaps one for release, and one for beta like:

              Code:
              deb [url]http://kubuntu.org/packages[/url] breezy main beta
I don't know how hard this sort of thing is to set up, but at least that way the kubuntu updates would work the same way as the normal ones 8)

Sorry, but it seems I do not really getting this right.

Backports are thought to provide software updates of stable apps prior to the half-yearly ubuntu release updates, right?
amarok 1.3.7 is stable, the backported version is 1.3.1, why?

Why is the amarok 1.3.7 package not put in the breezy-backports repository (same might hold for the KDE 3.5 packages)? Ok you already mentioned the traffic for the mirrors to stay up to date, but is that all? Why are there backports if they are not providing the most recent _stable_ updates?

                regards

                  Just to keep you informed:

It seems that aramok 1.3.7 was backported to the official breezy backports finally.

                  cheers.
