[RESOLVED] Still cant get 25.04 to install grub [Solved sort of]

Can't seem to get a good install of 25.04 every time I have tried it fails to install grub. Which seem strange because Ubuntu itself install and run well.
any one have a clue what may be going wrong? And how to fix this? I downloaded it three times and tried different .iso burns on different sticks same result. and yes checked my download too. Also I'm using legacy boot no EFI.

Are you trying to dual boot or something? You need to provide more information such as:
    • current set up (single, dual, triple etc boot)
    • Number of hard drives / partitions
    • Are you using LVM or not
    • In case of the above (more than one drive or partition) the layout including which partition you want to install grub on
    • Whether your motherboard supports UEFI or not
Challenges are what that keeps us from the borderline of boredom in life's journey. Linux user no. 419401 currently running Kubuntu 24.04

Thanks for the reply princey. No straight boot. have not used Windows since window 7. I finally got it installed and working but will only install on uefi not legacy boot. So has something to do with legacy boot.
Wondering if those with older machines that do not have uefi would be out of luck. But for now it's up and working.

If your partition table is not GPT, then you should just need to turn off UEFI in your UEFI-BIOS firmware settings.
        Turn on CSM.

If you have a GPT disk, then provide the bios_boot partition:
Use gparted to create an 8 MB partition and set the bios_grub flag on it.
Then turn off UEFI in your UEFI-BIOS firmware settings.
        Turn on CSM.

        In general:
        Installing legacy GRUB:
        sudo apt-get install grub-pc
        sudo update-grub

What options for GRUB does the Calamares Kubuntu installer offer?
You would only want /dev/sda for the MBR of a disk (assuming your one and only disk is sda).
You would not want to use /dev/sda1 (= the 1st partition of sda).

        Another thought:
Do you what you did, or do it using something I said here.
If it doesn't work, then run Boot-Repair on it.

Thanks for that info. I had searched and did not find it. so went ahead and just install with UEFI which works fine. Legacy is not mentioned in the installer as far as I can tell I try gpt and making the boot-bios partition but it still did not work. Maybe your info will help other though.
