Kubuntu 24.10 install issues

Hey guys, ok i felt somewhat compelled to post this. I don't know if it will work for a clean install but it FINALLY let me into the "Try Kubuntu" option. As your booting from the pen drive when it gives you the options of "Try or Install" tap the "E" key. In the screen that appears modify the line that says "linux /boot/vmlinuz-... root=UID=... ro quiet splash " simply add "nomodeset" WITHOUT THE inverted Commas. and press CTRL-X. I won't know for sure if the install will work until i get my nvme drive in the next day or so. But for those of you who are having difficulty booting 24.10 this might help.

I did however discover the pressing "CTRL-ALT-F4 or F3 did give me a terminal that i can login using Username: Kubuntu and a blank password. I know i'm getting close. It's really got me scratching my head.
Did you say if you had tried 24.04 and then an upgrade?kubuntu 20.10

Trying the "Safe Graphics" option when booting should work, too. iirc it ends up doing much the same thing as nomodeset - keeping things in a low level graphics state which probably won't crap out.
The installer uses a basic but more performant video driver that *should* work with the vast majority of systems, but some don't play well with every kernel. Nomodeset goes even lower, to a VESA driver or something. Usually, the installed system will boot normally without any special parameters - nomodeset is not good for daily use cases or decent screen resolutions.

Ok I'm back! So as it transpires Running a clean install of 24.10 fails, everytime. However if i install 24.04 and i upgrade my nvidia Graphics card driver PRIOR and and i runsudo do-release-upgrade
Not quite the solution i was looking for but at least I'm running 24.10 now. So based on this information I'm surmising it's a software issue.
edit: apologies I meant HARDWARE!Last edited by TheYikes; Dec 29, 2024, 12:15 PM.

Ok I'm not sure if I'm about to ask the dumbest question on KFN but here goes. So is it possible to preinstall my GPU drivers before updating linux? I have a feeling i already know
the answer to this but why now ask anyway. It's not like I'm going to be shot for asking.... I hope!

Also, I wonder if this blank screen issue is still a thing like it seems to be in 24.04?
Just another thing to toss at the wall.

Hi Claydoh. I'm sorry for both the delay in responding and the poorly phrased question. Essentially what i meant was is there anyway of modifying the gpu drivers on the bootable pen drive before i actually install Kubuntu 24.10 It's a redundant question in that I managed to upgrade 24.04 to 24.10 but curiosity is getting the better of me.
