stops rebooting just before sign in screen - just hangs

I installed the first time with wifi on and it did reboot for that, however, rebooting hung up on something for all tries thereafter. So I re-installed with wifi off. It went quickly, and before updating, I tried rebooting a few times to make sure everything was good. It was, so then I ran the wifi updating it, and as soon as it was updated, it refused to go through and finish rebooting after the updates where installed, hanging up just after the re-start, before the log-in screen. Already deleted quiet splash from gm - still no change - any help would be appreciated.

How long are you waiting? In some installation/configurations, it can take a minute and a half or more.

Easily longer than that, but it is weird - like it timed itself out.
