Nah, let the service run. It should ignore the ntfs-3g mount. The only way to see if it works is to leave the service running.

Well, it appears that fstrim has run, and it appears that is has skipped the NTFS drives (mounted via ntfs-3g) as instructed by the fstab! So that's great news. I'll report back here if the hangup happens again, but so far so good. Thanks again for the assistance!

Great. Maybe someday it will get fixed but NTFS being an "outsider" file system, maybe not...
