    Shortcutpocalypse

So, I upgraded to 24.10 and it has been a disaster to my UX flow so far (buncha reasons). Apparently they have yanked out the custom shortcut configuration (khotkeys) because they are in the process of upgrading it -- fair enough -- but the current state of affairs is not ready IMO. In case anyone is looking like I was, the "translated" custom shortcuts from before the upgrade are now in ~/.local/share/kglobalaccel/ -- that directory contains all the (UUID-named) files in question where you can edit if you need to (since the new GUI doesn't let you edit the command or its arguments, etc.) Edit: key mappings are in .config/kglobalshortcutsrc

Supposedly the new way going forward is to "Add New" to add an application or command shorcut via the new UI, but anything I try to add just generates an "Error while communicating with the global shortcuts service" and fails (and then that tab is no longer responsive.) Anyone know what that's about?

In the same boat, I do like some things about the new Kubuntu but the revamp of the system settings is a bit of a mish-mash. It was much better with icons. The sidebar pushes the active pane off the screen for my setup and it really sucks because you can't resize the left and middle panes to fit the active one in - the one where you actually have to do stuff! The khotkeys doesn't work at all and they have moved stuff around in a seemingly random manner that makes no logical sense to me. I am grateful for their efforts to improve Kubuntu and realise it is all unpaid and they do it for the love of it, but why change stuff which gives an inferior experience to the user? Many decisions are probably done for good reasons, but the revamped system settings is just all over the place.

IME plasma's shortcut set up has always been fragile. I learned to reset them altogether, and set up the ones I needed from scratch, and it would work. At some point the "Defaults" button was added to simplify that process; you might try that.
