Built-in wifi not recognized - fresh install on Dell G7

Hello - looks like i'm the first to post in this forum ... also my first post in the community so apologize for being long winded. I have a Dell G7 7590 with the
    Intel 9560 2x2 ac (
    Intel 9560 2x2 ac (160 MHz)

built-in Wifi adapter. A little background ... i was running Windows 11 and wifi was working fine. I did a fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04.01 - the wifi adapter was recognized but was unable to get it enabled. Tried a fresh install of Fedora Workstation 40 ... same result and didn't care for the desktop environment. I then tried a fresh install of Mint22 ... no luck and liked KDE Plasmic vs Cinnamon and so decided to do a fresh install of Kubuntu 24.10 - hoping the newer kernel might resolve it. I am liking 24.10 - but unfortunately it appears the wifi adapter is not being recognized at all. All other hardware components seem to be working fine including the wired ethernet adapter.

I've been searching online for possible resolutions have not found anything that works yet any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have disabled Secure Boot and set the Windows Fast Boot to minimal in the BIOS. The WIFI switch is enable (doesn't seem to matter either way.) I have the latest firmware available for the laptop installed.

as you can see here the ethernet is recognized but i don't see the wifi.

I took a look at some of the log files ... here are some things i found that could be of interest ... (one thing i've noticed is the G7 boots up very slow ... once it is up seems to be fine performance wise)

lsusb shows the Bluetooth component - which is USb based.

but lspci is NOT showing the WiFi, it isn't detected.

Don't forget to disable Windows Fast startup - this is not at all related to the BIOS fast boot option. It locks up the Windows drive in a hibernation sort of state, and this can have an effect on hardware, sometimes.

Thanks for the reply .... i have completely removed Windows11 from the laptop ... not doing a dual-boot configuration - only a linux partition installed.

Unless there is a physical issue with the card - loose in the socket? - or something in the BIOS, the card would still be detected, I think, even if it were missing a driver (not likely) or there was an issue with its firmware, so this is a bit weird.

Yeah - definitely feels like something strange going on. It's a built-in wireless adapter and was working under windows so i feel pretty confident it is not a hardware issue with the wifi adapter itself. In the BIOS - there is nothing under Power Mgmt relating to the WIFI radio or adapter. There is a WIFI section ... under it there is Wireless Switch - it has enable/disable for WLAN and Bluetooth. (*Note there is no physical wireless switch on the outside of this laptop). There is also Wireless Device Enable with enable/disable WLAN and Bluetooth under it. As a test i disabled Bluetooth for both settings and rebooted - in Kubuntu - it showed the Bluetooth adapter as being unavalable. As another test ... i reset the BIOS settings to Factory and rebooted. In Kubuntu - Info Center - under PCI - does not see the wifi ...under USB - xHCI Host Controller (1) - it shows Integrated Webcam HD (working), Wireless-AC 9260 Bluetooth Adapter (not working), AW-ELC - not sure what it is but shows Alienware Corporation - LED controller - speed 12Mbit/s, 2.4G Mouse (working).

Under PCI - notice mulitple entries for the Thunderbolt Controller and one that references Kernel driver xhci_hcd and Kernel modules - xhci_pci. I've never used the Thunderbolt port and don't foresee using it in the near future ... will try disabling it in the bios ... nothing to lose at this point.

So disable Thunderbolt in the BIOS .... rebooted ... mouse, webcam still work .... still recognizes the wifi adapter under the USB settings and does not recognize it under PCI.
