I have hardware issues after upgrading to Kubuntu 24.10

Hi there, I hope this is the right sub-forum to post my problem. Also while I have explored quite a lot about Linux, driver issues aren't typically what I know how to troubleshoot.

I have recently decided to make the jump, and upgrade my Kubuntu 24.04 LTS to 24.10, so I could try out and daily drive Wayland. I was also hoping to provide some feedback for the community. I have noticed the following issues, though they may not related.

    My PC configuration (Info Center):
    Operating System: Kubuntu 24.10
    KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.5
    KDE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0
    Qt Version: 6.6.2
    Kernel Version: 6.11.0-13-generic (64-bit)
    Graphics Platform: Wayland
    Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-4820K CPU @ 3.70GHz
    Memory: 15.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070/PCIe/SSE2
    nVidia driver version: 560

    1. Wayland acts up on hibernate/sleep/switching (mostly by accident) to another TTY terminal.
    • When I hibernate my PC, and log back in, all the windows and UI elements become blank in the Plasma panels, and only the plasma panels. I can interact with the desktop, but icons only appear when I move over them, but sometimes they disappear, and text don't appear at all. In this case, I can just bring up the quick launcher (alt+f2) and type in plasmashell --restart, and everything (sort of) return to normal. Though the Start/meta key does not open the program launcher from that point on. Not entirely sure how the applications behave in this case, but Firefox or Chrome do show up, but then again they still use X11 for rendering according to my understanding. Though that may be irrelevant, and all applications work just fine, I had no opportunity yet to fully test that. (this requires a lot of commitment.)
    • I had no opportunity yet to test the same with Sleep, but since it has a similar workflow to Hibernation, I'd assume the same thing will happen.
    • When I press any of the ctrl+alt+f# key combination for whenever I look for something and forgot what they actually do, when I switch back to TTY2, the entire screen becomes black. I can see the cursor, though while my screen is set to 125% scale, after this it looks like it reverts to 100% scaling. And while I can't really interact with anything (because I can't see it), I do hear the applications working, like Thunderbird pulling in new mails. Alt+f2 doesn't seem to work, and even if plasmashell --restart would work from another virtual terminal (i.e.: from TTY3) I would still would switch between Wayland and another terminal. The only workaround I could find is... well actually to restart the entire PC, because sending SIGQUIT to kwin_wayland would drop me back to the login screen of SDDM, last time I've tried it, I've stuck in an infinite login-loop, and then I've restarted my PC
Whichever issue I am facing with, restarting my PC resolves any momentary issues. I have a feeling, that this is a driver issue, and there is already a discussion going on somewhere on the internet, but not even sure how would I search for it.

    2. I have an I-TEC USB-C 3.1 gen 2 PCIe Card in my system that struggles to host my webcam

When I've bought the card, I was still using Windows, and bought it with the thought, that USB-C will come sooner or later, and I will need one. Later, I bought a Logitech Brio 500, and plugged that in there, which worked well both in Windows and in Kubuntu 24.04. However, after the upgrade, it just downright didn't show the webcam. However (luckily) with a USB-C to USB-A converter, I am still able to use it. I also have just tried it out just to be sure, and Info Center (kinfocenter) started spawning in the entry for my webcam repeatedly, and Teams on the web didn't offer the webcam, which I am able to do, if I use the converter on a completely different USB port. I also tested it with a YubiKey and it seems to be recognized just find. Didn't tried to unlock anything with it though, because my PC is under the table, and my table is up against the wall.

Although I had a USB connectivity issue warning while booting and shutting down the system in the text output using 24.04, I do not have the technical know how on troubleshoot that, while also all my USB devices worked fine. Although despite all of this, I still suspect an insufficient power delivery by my PC power supply.

Can you help me with these? What channel can I report, or watch for progress any possible bug fixes? What other information you need to look at, to gain better understanding on the issues?

Interesting thing happened: When I woke up my system from hibernation, instead of restarting plasmashell, I've just used it as is. The application launcher showed fine, and restored most of the icons on the plasma panel by changing between Breeze Light and Breeze Dark themes. Otherwise application windows were showing their content just fine, with the exception of Discord. While I continued using my system in this state, plasmashell just reloaded by itself. The system works a bit funky though. I opened up KSystemLog for now. Couldn't figure out how can I filter to log entries 4 hours before the current time.
