Hi,
I have been using my laptop in a dual-boot config (win 11 and kubuntu) for a while, but I want to fully switch to kubuntu.
I have a th3p4g3 thunderbolt 3 diy egpu.
On windows it performs well and plug and play works seemlessly using the amd xconnect software.
On Kubuntu it has problems and as it works with windows on the same hardware I am assuming that it's a software/config problem
I heard that egpus work better with Wayland so I've been using wayland.
When connected from boot up, everything works fine until I've logged into a wayland session, at which point, the egpu will randomly go into and out of standby (in less than a second) every 30 seconds to a minute.
During the time it's connected, it is detected in the thunderbolt area in the settings, and appears in the output of "sudo lshw -c video".
Hardware:
Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5 16ARP8
- AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS with Radeon 680M graphics, 16gb ddr5 (2gb reserved for 680M)
Egpu
- th3p4g3, RX 580 (4gb gddr5), HX1000i (1st gen)
- 0.5m thunderbolt cable that came with the th3p4g3
- 2m lenovo thunderbolt cable
Edit:
Software versions:
Kubuntu 24.04
KDE plasma - 5.27.11
KDE frameworks - 5.115.0
Qt Version - 5.15.13
Kernel Version - 6.8.0-44-generic (64 bit)
