try a new user account, and compare. It might be a factor, if you preserved your $HOME

Also, I'll be almost in your time zone at the end of this month....

I found gnome-multi-writer which solves my Etcher problem

Kamoso segfaults and Webcamoid shows a black screen. Only OBS Studio shows my webcam working.
I've never had problems with it before!

My own usage of Kamoso (and Cheese) over the years has been mixed. Some times they don't work, or have black screens. The next year/OS release, it works fine. Then it doesn't, again.
Guvcview, the oldest project of the bunch, seems to always work. As does OBS, in terms of webcams.

And I will be out of my timezone at the end of the month. I'm heading for London for ten nights!

            Where are you headed?

Well, that affair didn't last long!

I was not happy with Kubby 24.04 so downloaded the latest Neon ISO yesterday and just reinstalled it
this afternoon! It's unbelievable that the problems I was having with Neon before moving to Kubby
                have now disappeared!

No more hanging loading the desktop when I install fcitx-mozc

No more hanging with the update to the on-screen keyboard!

I didn't even have to create a new user! After using Plasma 6 it was a bit of a let down to move back
                to Plasma 5.27.....

It didn't take me long to get everything reinstalled and ship-shape!

The only thing I miss is the 6.8 kernel. I didn't have to install my WiFi driver with that one!

                  I spoke too soon!

                  When I installed fcitx-frontend-qt6

On reboot and login, Plasma hangs...

I think I'm flogging a dead horse here and may go back to Mint Cinnamon until things get
sorted out. Kubby 24.04 was not for me.

Nothing against Kubutu 24.04 and Neon. But if you want a nice KDE 6 implementation give Tuxedo a spin. works great on my hardware.

I don't think that TUXEDO OS 3 will solve Beerislife's input method problems - but he could certainly try…

TUXEDO does use some of their "own" (newer) system components like pipewire or Mesa and kernel additions - in comparison to KDE neon. So who knows…

You may be right. but worth a try.

OK! I've managed to get fcitx5-mozc working instead of the older (and what I'm used to) fcitx-mozc!

fcitx5-frontend-qt6 no longer hangs the desktop whereas fcitx-frontend-qt6 does!

It looks like all of my niggles have been de-niggled!

                          Abnormal service will resume shortly!

I'll treat myself to a beer or three later.

                          Thanks for all the input!
