[KDE] How to upgrade to 24.04 NOT 24.10

Considering that 24.10 is released, and I am still on 22.04
Question. How do I do an upgrade to 24.04 ONLY ??
PS. I do NOT want 24.10
Also I know muon is now considered obsolete, what program does KDE or Ubuntu expect us to use?
I am asking as somehow firefox is locked in Muon and I cannot unlock it. Will it be unlocked if I upgrade.
ALSO I really hate wiping and installing a new version. It's worse the Micro$uxs updating

There is no skipping ahead possible, so you can't upgrade from 22.04 to 24.10 directly. You also can't do it indirectly unless you choose to do so.

You can only upgrade 22.04 to 24.10 by first upgrading to 24.04, and then changing the upgrade notification settings to enable non-LTS upgrades, then upgrading to 24.10.

In Software Sources set it to Long Term Releases Only.

Yes, this should be the default setting on LTS.

          So. A change of question

If I install and run 20.04 (not supported and EOL-yes I am aware), and I missed the "upgrade" when required or expected to follow and do as kubuntu says so...

Q- Can I and How do I upgrade just to 22.04.?

Q- Can I upgrade from 22.04.5 to 24.04.0 ? Instead of 24.04.2 as an example

          sudo do-release-upgrade
Q- Is there any difference between
          apt full-upgrade
          OR
          apt upgrade
          &
          Exactly what does
          Code:
          do-release-upgrade
actually do to the system, noob version please.

OffTopic Question.... I've seen this a few times, how do I post a forum users name that appears as a link ?

Q- Can I and How do I upgrade just to 22.04.?
If you're using 20.04 and the file "/etc/update-manager/release-upgrades" contains "Prompt=lts" it will upgrade to 22.04.

Q- Can I upgrade from 22.04.5 to 24.04.0 ? Instead of 24.04.2 as an example
Not in any way that I am aware of. The upgrade procedure upgrades to the latest packages. So if 24.04.2 is the latest available, that's what you get.

Q- Is there any difference between apt full-upgrade OR apt upgrade
"apt upgrade" dos not remove any packages and will not upgrade any packages requiring package removals. "apt full-upgrade" upgrades all packages and removes packages no longer needed.

Exactly what does do-release-upgrade actually do to the system
Upgrade all the operating system packages to the latest release version. "Prompt=lts" (as mentioned above) only upgrades to the highest available LTS release. "Prompt=normal" upgrades to the next REGULAR release.

OffTopic Question.... I've seen this a few times, how do I post a forum users name that appears as a link ?
            I don't under this question.

              Mine is
              prompt=never
How is this... Sorry. How was this with Muon --> Settings --> Software Sources (Separate Program?) --> Update [TAB] > Release Upgrade
If I remember correctly, If I do an update or upgrade with [Long Tern Support Releases Only] it will upgrade to 24.04.. This is what I manually changed before I did my upgrade on 23rd Feb, that lead to my PC becoming unusable !
I am just double checking here
If I re-install 22.04 and I am unable to get yubico to work, I'll be forced to attempt 20.04

Somewhere in a KFN Thread, someone posted a "users Name". It appeared as a LINK. It was written as oshunluvr but as a LINK... Not just typed, quoted, whatever.... Just asking, not specifically to you, but anyone who reads this thread... Sort of like the Link at the bottom of your posts.
Q- How do you post ""Please Read Me"" with a link to http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...-the-smart-way

              Thanks for the replies

A link to a users name could be created in the same way as any other link in this forum:
                1. Locate and copy the desired URL
                2. Type what you want to call the link in your post
                3. Highlight what you typed in step 2
                4. Click the "chain" (as in "chain link") icon in the post formatting bar
                5. Paste the previously copied URL into the URL location in the pop-up and click OK
Now when you save your post the highlighted word will turn blue to indicate it is a link. I created the link in my forum signature this way by coping the URL from the posted page and adding it to my sig.

To link to a user's profile, right-click on their profile picture or name and click "Copy link address" then follow the above steps.

To remove the link but leave the text, highlight the linked text and click on the "broken chain" formatting button.
To remove both the link and it's text, simply delete it.

What CharlieDaves is referring to is how I just 'linked' his username in this sentence.

CharlieDaves: The way this is done is to start by typing an "at sign" ( @ ) and then start typing the username. No space after the "at sign". As you type, a list of matches will appear below your typing. Mouse click on the one you want to use.

You are not "required" to only upgrade. If you have a target release in mind (i.e., 22.04 24.10, 24.04.2), just download the ISO, burn it to a thumb drive, and install it. To upgrade or do a fresh install is just a decision and is not required either; but fresh is an option. As always, back up important data first, regardless of how you do things

My decision for the past several years has been to only use LTS releases. I have set up my /home on its own partition, so I don't lose it when I freah install the LTS. I do a "manual" install and I format the / and the /boot/efi partitions but leave the /home partition as it is. For my needs, it's simple and it works. Your mileage may vary

FYI - I have comments from several "THREADS"
For me, primary issue I found a few days after upgrading, was yubikey was locked with an unknown password.

I have been slowly doing a Fresh install, starting with 24.04, then backwards 22 and finally 20.04.0000. The last was the one that I was able to install the yubioath-desktop software and regain access to my yubi-key(s) (Including the backup)

Once I had something that worked for ME, as in yubico, I then proceeded with
                      Step1 - Rescuezilla a full / Root + vfat DRIVE image
Step2 - Reboot and do the upgrade

First Upgrade to 22.04.6 was a complete disaster, even after I managed to figure out the "Graphics Driver Issue", completely removed the OATH-Desktop Version and replaced it with the Authenticator version, with is password protected (see above yubioath link).

So. I know I can't get security updates, and this is more-or-less in the WRONG forum, until I fix my yubikey issue, I am stuck....

PS & FYI. I figured out that Snap(s) have been around since 22.04.. This was weirded me out as my system settings displayed my system as 22.04, but the "updates" were listed as FOCAL.

Thanks oshunluvr for the info on upgrading... I (ATM) now. Give me a few weeks, & I will have forgotten... Read my Bio on why.
