Making the switch from Ubuntu to Kubuntu

Hello everyone, brand new to the forum and semi-new to Linux.

I left Windows a few weeks ago, switching to Ubuntu (which I've toyed with now & then over the past 10 years), and heard good things about Kubuntu, so I'm seriously looking at installing it.

    My question is:
Install over Ubuntu or clean install?

Really is a ‘what you want to do’ issue. Myself, and many here (likely) would opt for a clean installation. If you have the drive space, create another partition or two and install to that, keeping Ubuntu. Options. Linux is all about options.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Clean install. Avoids for example possible problems due to old/incompatible user settings or cache files.

      And Welcome.

Thinking of switching from Ubuntu to Kubuntu on a brand new Lenovo laptop. Been having issues with being locked out of the upgrade process. Laptop came with 22.04 and can't be upgraded due to hardware driver issues. But with Ubuntu Pro and ESM the support is extended beyond five years so maybe I don't care as much about the upgrades . I am, however, hesitant to do a complete reinstall due to these hardware driver issues. Hardware works fine on 22.04. Is this something to worry about, or can I get the same 22.04 hardware drivers that came with the machine onto the new Installation?

You might start a new thread and include any hardware details, as well as what hardware you think have driver issues.

Ubuntu does support its core under-the-hood OS longer, but the Kubuntu desktop bits haven't seen any updates in quite some time as KDE doesn't support the old version in 22.04, and those Kubuntu part reach EOL in April.

So, stasrt a new topic and provide some details and we can see what might be possible.

And do try a live session of 24.04, see how it works there.
