    Installation Failed!

    Code:
    The bootloader could not be installed. The installation command <pre>grub-install -target=i386-pc -recheck -force /dev/sda</pre> returned error code 1.
    I am currently downloading 25.04.
    Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

    target=i386-pc
    So you are using GRUB legacy? Not UEFI? You have a MBR, not a GPT (or GPT+CSM)?

    Not sure I can help, but whoever helps will need at least a little more info!

      An old HP Pavilion Entertainment laptop. Hint it uses Intel core duo and an Intel GMA4500. I am trying 25.04 now.

        The Intel 386, originally released as the 80386 and later renamed i386, is the third-generation x86 architecture microprocessor from Intel. It was the first 32-bit processor in the line, making it a significant evolution in the x86 architecture.
        What it sounds like is going on here, is an attempt to install a 64-bit OS (Kubuntu 25.04) on a 32-bit PC. Can't be done.

          I just installed 25.04. I must have used the wrong version of 24.04. No matter since I am running 25.04 now.
