    Need PPA for packagekit

It is known that Discover in Noble Numbat does not show connected repositories and this is due to the PackageKit error - https://github.com/PackageKit/PackageKit/issues/763

This problem has already been resolved in Debian Trixie, but in Ubuntu the new version of packagekit will clearly arrive only in future versions. I would very much like to get a fixed packagekit for Noble Numbat.

Are there any inhabitants of this forum who have sufficient competencies to undertake such a task?

Use the Software Sources tool ---you can get to that via the Driver Manager in System Settings, or by running sudo software-properties-qt from a terminal.

I have done some packaging in the now-distant past. I am not interested in this, it is more complex than I can handle.
I doubt anyone will try it, but, for one with experience it will be possible, once a new packagekit release comes, even more so once it is in Debian Testing.
I have no idea exactly what else besides Plasma Discover is affected by such an upgrade, but I would not be surprised if Discover components also need changes as well.

But when any new Packagekit version makes it to Trixie, someone with skill might be able to base something off the Debian packaging.
Currently, packagekit in Debian Trixie, Sid and Ubuntu 25.04 have the exact same version.

But otherwise, waiting for 25.10 is it. Assuming that a new Packlagekit release comes out before that, of course, or if the changes can be patched to previous versions.

I know this When I had a problem with Discover (and another problem with running software-properties-qt after I used pwfeedback...) it was reading this forum that helped me. After I learned about the existence of backports-extra for the previous Kubuntu LTS, I thought that perhaps there will be those whose knowledge of Linux will be enough to create a PPA for PackageKit - this will help many LTS users.
But when any new Packagekit version makes it to Trixie
Yesterday I checked Debian Trixie (it is almost completely frozen) and there is already a new version of PackageKit, the repositories are correctly displayed in Discover.

Kubuntu-backports ppa is run by Kubuntu. They don't usually package things that would affect non-KDE things in Ubuntu.

Probably the proper long haul fix is to see if the changes can be patched in the current packagekit and propose an SRU. I can't recall how involved a process this is, I've been away from the Kubuntu team for too long. My comments are purely edumacated guesses.

However it is helping that the person who committed the fix to packsgekit is also a lubuntu/kubuntu dev and the packagekit packaging in both Debian and Ubuntu appear to be done by the same people.

I suggest to keep asking about this on matrix, politely it might get an answer on how possible it is or isn't. Im sure they'd love to be able to fix this in LTS if they can.
