password for partition manager during install

Trying to install Kubuntu 24.04 from a usb. Install is on a laptop which has Windows and harddrive is (was) encrypted by BitLocker.

Installer just says "X There are no partitions to install on". And I click cancel and end up in kubuntu (running on usb).

Opening "KDE Partition Manager" it pops up a window entitled "Authentication Required - PolicyKit 1 KDE Agent" which says "Authenticate to Manage Disks. An application is attempting to perform an action that requires priveileges. Authentication is required to perform this action." and has space to end a "Password: ".

What password does it want? I have not set any password in Kubuntu at this stage, so I don't understand what it is asking for. My one guess was that it was because the Windows partition was encrypted by BitLocker and it was some password related to this, but I then decrypted the whole disk and this didn't change anything, still got same issue during install.

Any idea what password it wants? Or how to bypass/overrule this and get to edit the partitions?

PS. Clicking "Details >>" in the "Authentication Required - PolicyKit 1 KDE Agent" window it gives the following info, maybe it is useful:
Action: Run privileged partition manager helper
    ID: org.kde.kpmcore.externalcommand.init
    polkit.subject-pid: 3564
    polkit.caller-pid: 3564

No, it is a minor bug. Just hit <enter>

I do believe that you do need to remove bitlocker in order to be able to shrink partitions, or from windows shrink the encrypted partition before trying to install Kubuntu.

Okay, that solves my authentication problem, so I am now in KDE Partition Editor.

My next problem is that I cannot see the harddrive. "Device>Select Current Device" just shows the USB drive, but not the laptop harddrive. Similarly, 'lsblk' in konsole also fails to show the harddrive (only shows the USB drive).

Any ideas? (Harddrive is no longer encrypted)

I used windows to create a 200gb "unallocated" partition, but KDE Partition Editor does not see this.

          Is this an nvme drive?
If so, is the drive set up in the laptop's firmware (aka BIOS) to use something called "intel RST" or some sort of RAID thing?
If so, this doesn't support Linux at all and does prevent the drive from showing up.

The drive needs to be set to use AHCI instead.

However, this does require fixing Windows to be able to use that setting.
