Report on some problems with upgrade to 24.04

A report on some problems I have had with the upgrade from 22.04 to 24:04
    1) AFter upgrade the system would not run a GUI. I could get in via CTRL-SHIFT-F5 and the system had been upgraded.
It appears to have created an new partition
On some examination I think it has ignored that the BIOS and system are set for the old BIOS boot not UEFI

The disk reports errors although fsck reports no problems

    2) I use thunderbird email.
I have been unstalling.updating it from a downloaded tar file, rather than from Kbuntu.
When I installed Kbuntu 24.04 ( after problems in 1) Thunderbird came as a snap.
BUT it would not access my email server as it reported certificate errors.
By bringing down a tar file and using that all worked perfectly.
So there appears to be a problem with snap and other installs.

Any comments happily received but possibly my experiance might help

Ha, so it isn't me. I'm using Kubuntu on an external drive on my work laptop since I'm out of town. So glad I updated and it totally f*cked my work laptoop's boot order. The security system won't let me in, so now I'll have to explain to IT who messed with the bootloader.

Kubuntu, did it ever occur to you, that there's a reason I ban you onto an external drive?

And whlie we're at it, when my default browser is Firefox, I do not ask you to sneak Chrome/Chromium into everything. Select Firefox as default again, Chromium still gets opened up. Deinstall Chromium... now Chrome pops up. Is someone getting paid by Google to do this stuff? Uninstalled that, now it's Firefox. Phew. I deeply, deeply regret agreeing to this update. Terrible all around.
