    I think I'll have some time tomorrow. Then I will test it in a VM with the minimal installation of KUbuntu 24.04.

      The clean full reinstall took care of it. I had added Kolourpaint, Document Scanner, Keepassxc, Synaptic, Files, Firewall, Clam CT, Aisleriot solitaire, gnome mahjongg, SGT Puzzles Collection, Lbreakout, Solaar, a failed flatpak install also.

        The whole thing comes down to a similarity to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...p/+bug/1971763.

        --> a possible solution first:

        Install something to satisfy the "www-browser" dependency before installing localization files for GIMP - e.g. something small and simple like KDE's Falkon (sudo apt install falkon).

        One should also sudo apt purge wslu if it was installed by mistake/due to the packaging/dependency error.

        ---

        --> the details:

        Desktop symbols to start programs do also work with the "Minimal Installation" option in Kubuntu 24.04 LTS.

        Also after applying all steps of Essential and strongly recommended things to do directly after a Kubuntu 24.04 LTS installation the desktop symbols to start a program (and creating them) still work - without/before installing gimp-help-de!

        BUT: the moment one installs gimp-help-de (or any other localized GIMP help file!) in a "Minimal Installation" they stop working - it works if one only installs GIMP without any localized help files.
        The bug also occurs when one installs gimp-help-de without applying any of the steps of the linked thread!

        So this has nothing to do with Essential and strongly recommended things to do directly after a Kubuntu 24.04 LTS installation but with gimp-help-de in a "Mininmal Installtion".

        Why? Because this seems to be a packaging/dependency error: in a "Minimal Installation" gimp-help-de automatically installs the dependencies gimp-help-common pulseaudio-utils and the "famous" wslu (famous for causing several different errors and problems and for not having a place in a Linux installation at all other than in the Windows 10 Linux subsystem!) - no wonder that things don't work anymore afterwards…
        [RANT] "They" really still don't get it right in *Ubuntu with wslu. [/RANT]

        --> This bug should effect a lot of other language files/versions of GIMP in a "Minimal Installation": gimp-help-it, gimp-help-es and all the others…!

          Hi, Re: my bad install of 24.04
          It is funny you mentioned Falkon. Because I planned on using the traditional Firefox install idea. And I needed to do one little errand online, so I installed Falkon, but I don't remember in what order of installs I did it.

          Also thanks again for your time and experience.
