Adding Lenovo AF40 Docking station to Lenovo E495

    Hi,

I am a bit lost and hope some of you can help. I have been running Linux for some time now and really enjoy it. Even when I try to install new things I know nothing of. But now I am stuck in a rut. I have tried to use some AI to help me get a docking station (as in title) working on my laptop. I have two external screens attached to it via HDMI and I would love to use then with Kubuntu. I have downloaded and installed the DisplayLink driver (AI Help here as it was a run file and hadn't tried that before). But I cannot seem to get the screens to work still. The DS is attached and I can use my keyboard and everything else attached to it just fine - just not the monitors. Can anyone help me? and just to be completely honest, i struggle with the technical sides of Linux, so I may have a lot of follow up questions. Sorry about that.

    Thanks in advance!

AI are often behind the times, providing info that can be outdated
What exact steps did you use to install the driver? What file did you download --is it the most current?

using a .run file is no needed, though it is the second option listed:

    https://support.displaylink.com/know...-now-available
    which leads to:

Though I have zero knowledge of this type of hardware, so don't off the bat know where to begin.
You might need to broaden your question to general Ubuntu support areas, as well as the displaylink forums, perhaps, if you don't find anyone with ideas in here

Hi, thanks for your answer. I thought that the AI might be a bit outdated, hence going here. Here is what I did:

I found the display link in the link you also provided and downloaded it. It was a .zip file, so I unpacked it and inside was the .run file which I then made executable with the chmod command in the terminal. Then I ran the file with the sudo command as root and followed the installer instructions. This then didn't bring the result I was looking for. Then I tried a simple switch of cables (usb a and usb c) which didn't work either. After this I tried to look for the firmware update for the docking station. But here I stopped - it needed Wine and after I installed that I thought I better go ask a "grown up" for help Hence I am here.

But your advice is good and maybe I should also try some general forums and maybe the display link forum as well, so I will do that If you think of any other advise, it will be more than welcome though!
