I was searching the web and found out the 460 will support my card but I can nol get the 460. The 460 seems to be gone from the repos. I found it at the NVIDIA website and checked the supported products and the GTX 1060 is listed but is not listed for the 470 driver which is in the repos. Can I get the 460 from a Ubuntu repo or do I need to download the generic version from https://www.nvidia.com/download/driv.../175203/en-us/ ?

I just found out that Oracular Ubuntu 24.10 will have the NVIDIA 550 driver in it. I checked the current daily build and it already has the NVIDIA 550 driver. I am downloading the Kubuntu version of 24.10 now. Is it tested well enough yet for main use yet? It would be nice if they made the driver available to 24.04.
If I have to test it in a VM then the graphics driver can't be tested as the GTX 1060 doesn't have pass thru technology.

Thanks but I already tried that page. It installed the 470 and that borked my system as in it couldn't boot. I had to use recovery mode to boot to safe mode and switch to the 470 non-server. It boots now but that driver doesn't properly support the GTX 1060. The 470 booted but no desktop, just a completely black screen like a blank screen.

No, but I used sudo ubutu drivers install nvidia:460 and it installed the 470. The 460 was the last NVIDIA driver to support the GTX 1060 until they added it back to the 550 driver.

I can't read whatever you're trying to show in the picture as it is too small. The command to install the 550 seems to be working as the download rate is a puny 770 KiB/s! \My ISP provides 6 Mib/s up/down. I am guessing the Ubuntu servers are the bottleneck.

Is it possible to enable GPU scheduling in Kubuntu? Some of the errors in my games log say that GPU scheduling needs to be enabled in the OS. Is this something that Proton needs to do?

That's a Windows /Windows driver thing, iirc. Your game logs are not aware that the game is running with Proton and Linux.
