[KDE] No GUI after upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04

    Hi,

I just ran the release upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04 on my laptop. When it rebooted, it booted to a tty, not the KDE environment.

It was running just fine before the update.

The machine doesn't have an Nvidia card, or anything unusual. I really don't want to back this thing up and reinstall 22.04

    Any ideas?

    Mike.

at the grub menu edit the kernel call to remove the word "splash" from the parameters.

      Hi, skyfishgoo,

I don't see a grub menu when I boot. So, I edited the grub.cfg manually. Unfortunately, I didn't see much of interest before getting a login prompt.

dmesg didn't show me much, either.

So, I think I'm just going to back up my stuff and install from a newly burned DVD. BTW, my laptop runs just fine on the live DVD.

      Thank you for your time.

if you don't even see the default grub menu when you boot then something went wrong, either the install media is bad or the hardware is failing.

i would try from a USB.
