[SOLVED] lock screen stops accepting keyboard input on rare occassions

This is an issue I had posted about in the 22.04 forum, and it still happens in 24.04. You can reference the post here. Here's some additional information, not included in that post

    My rig:
    Dual-Boot with Windows 10, and Kubuntu 24.04
    CPU: i9-9900K
    Driver: nvidia-driver-550 (Proprietary)
    Compositor: disabled
Number of displays: 3 (usually configured to 1 or 2 displays. TV is always primary)
    Display server: X11

    - I've found that changing the TV to a different input then back resolves the display crash, instead of unplugging it.
    - This happens only on the lock screen, and not before login.
    - It's happened 3 times in as many months.
    - The TV is using HDMI, while the other two displays use DisplayPort
    - Lock screen will not accept input from the virtual keyboard either, despite the keyboard showing the typing animations.
    - Visually, the lock screen works (eg brings up the password box, if I move the mouse. Shows cursor in the password box, if I click there)

If you need more information, please let me know.

Just to be clear on which version of Kubuntu you are running, so I know where this thread should belong.

Your rig info indicates you are running Kubuntu 22.04, but you state the problem "still happens in 24.04."
You posted this thread in Kubuntu 24.04.

So, are you running 22.04 or 24.04?

Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

That's my fault. I am currently running 24.04. I edited the first post above to reflect that.

I'm guessing the TV is at fault. Try using one of the monitors as primary screen for awhile. You might also check your logs for the time the lock occurs and see if anything is logged when you do the input change on the TV.

It happened again this morning. I did some testing. The lock screen accepted keyboard input, until I fixed the TV crash. It's definitely the TV's fault.

Much appreciated for helping me track it down. I'll mark this and the other post as solved later in the day today.

          Thanks for the help!

Glad you at least know the cause. Some TV's are notorious for having poor edid communication. It's also possible the HDMI cable is at fault. A different cable might yield different results.

It's a problem with the TV itself. Some time ago, it was slightly damaged by a lightning strike that did a number on some of the stuff in my house. Had to replace breakers, and several other items that were damaged. The thing still works, but just has some weird issues on occasion. I'll replace it once I can afford to.
