    wrong screen resolution

Today the screen resolution jumped - on its own while working - to some small number, while still claiming to be the usual 1920X1080.
    This makes the screen unusable.
Also there is a very slow video reponse.
    External monitor also wrong resolution.
    Can't use the device!
Guess: machine jumped from WAYLAND to X11 by some unlucky key combination I typed.

The switch would require logging out, there is no way to switch on the fly, iirc

You can check from the login screen which session type has been selected, and choose which one to use. You probably won't even have a Wayland session option unless you've installed the package that provides it.

I can't say why it reports a different resolution from what it appears to be. It's more like the display is 'extended' beyond the physical screen size but using the correct resolution, but I don't know how to deal with xorg oddities so much these days.

OBS is using a virtual display iirc

Are you actually on 22.04? This post is in the 24.04 section. I can move it to the correct spot.
