Way to properly compile kernel in kubuntu 23.10

automatic majs set my base kernel to 6.5.0-21 after upgrade.
i have compiled a 6.5.0-generic from source "linux-source-6.5.0" but some is clear for me in Debian is not clear here, ( apt source linux-image-6.5.0-21-generic ) source file, do not contain any source at all but some download script i don't understand their use and what they made. but i don't know if i can use my custom linux-source-6.5.0 without break my system ( are the majs will break my special kernel ?).
could you explain me a clear way and working method from downloading source with APT, patching to get -21 ? and finally compile it ( curiously i have no pb to do this last thing )
if i compile a custom kernel is to use the Core2/xeon type of proc.

i know this doc, i used it. have you got some docs to apply -21 from the 6.5.0 sources ?

I am not clear why you need or want to compile your own kernel, or what part of the instructions are not working for you.
What are you trying to do? (maybe someone has done this already, somewhere?)
Where are things failing, exactly and specifically?
Have you tried using git to get the kernel source, as one of the options listed in my link?


You may have a LOT more knowledge on this from Askubuntu, ubuntuforums, or reddit than our small neighborhood

I have not compiled a kernel manually in at least 15 years, and my recent builds for Arm were scripted, so I can't say what is happening without a LOT more specific info.

Again, you may want to find more technical and general Ubuntru groups than the one here, more focused on the desktop side.

i want to activate some X64 set of proc instructions inactivated bu defaut in generic kernel, my proc is an xore i9 9900,Some web site recommend to add them because they add a real add( i don't know if it is right) to systems 64 and multi core usage. FIrst the Core 2 type/xeon and some instruction set comming with. if you could tell me a cibled doc for a kunbuntu way to help me uderstanding who to patch kernel before compiling it. thanks in advance.

There is no "kubuntu way", it will be an Ubuntu way, maybe, as well as the general Linux way, since Kubuntu has nothing to do with kernel building for Ubuntu/Kubuntu. This is why I suggest asking in a general or technical Ubuntu venue.
You will find a LOT more people with kernel knowledge than you will here.
I suggest asking on Askubuntu, as there are already a lot of posts asking about patching kernels, etc, so you may find a proper answer faster there.

have found a ubuntu way working.. with kubuntu. but, it wax broken since the 6.8 kernel. i'll open another thread for it, becasue ai have lost of trouble since this kernel was upgraded on my UC.
