    Steam loads, but doesn't show up, unless I use the command line

    Hello everyone,

    I have this strange glitch since moving to Kubuntu. I recently got around to installing steam. I've noticed that if I launch it via the icon in the popup application menu (I'm reluctant to call it a "start menu"), it loads in the background (shows up on system monitor), but doesn't actually appear.

    But when I load it via the terminal, it runs fine.

    Seems like odd behaviour. It didn't do this when I was trying out Mint/Pop, so I think it might be Kubuntu/KDE specific. Anyone have any idea what might be causing it?

    Depending on which one you use, it probably is called "Application Launcher"

    Mine works fine, though I do have it set to go to the system tray, and not open directly. is there an icon in the system tray?

    Are you using an icon in the Favorites section of the Application Launcher, or from the Games sub-menu?

    Right click on the icons(s) and use the Edit option to peek at the Applications tab and see what that shows.

    Menu items are just text files (and are actually distro/desktop independent), and it could have been corrupted somehow.
    If the one in the sub-menus works, delete the one from Favorites, and re-add.
    You could also compare the menu entries to see if there is a difference.

      Check your desktop files. Example:

      [Desktop Entry]
      Name=HITMAN™ 2
      Comment=Play this game on Steam
      Exec=steam steam://rungameid/863550
      Icon=steam_icon_863550
      Terminal=false
      Type=Application
      Categories=Game;
