Boot partion files can not be read by CMOS

I can only boot into failsafe mode and then do a normal boot from there but then the max res is 1024,768! Is there a way to get the higher resolutions? I have a 2k monitor. I installed the NVIDIA 535 driver to the recovery kernel but it seems it only has a generic monitor installed. Must be a safe mode that doesn't allow anything but a generic monitor to work. The CMOS and Dolphine can see the drive but only Dolphine can see the boot files. Is there a setting in the CMOS or maybe plug the SSD into a specific port on the MOBO? Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3. All Samsung SSD's 860 EVO. 1 TB /, 2TB /boot, and 4TB /steam CMOS set to boot '/' drive first. Hybrid EFI. boot repair used to create boot also used GParted. Any suggestions? I am building a new computer but it uses a water-cooled CPU and I live in Salt Lake City so probably need to buy water because tap water has very hard water (minerals from the mountains).

Part of "safe" mode is not using external video drivers. IMO you need to fix your booting problem and not focus on what safe mode looks like.

Anyone who uses water cooling (like I do) should know to use distilled water, not tap water - ever.

I was hoping this was the solution:
      Code:
For Ubuntu 20.04 the solution is as follows:[LIST=1][*]In /etc/init.d/lightdm, locate the line: start-stop-daemon --start --quiet $SSD_START_ARGS[*]And change it to: sleep 2
      start-stop-daemon --start --quiet $SSD_START_ARGS[/LIST]1
Unfortunately light.dm does not exist in that location on my 23.10 system. Is it in another location or named something else in Kubuntu 23.10? Or maybe the boot needs an EFI partition? Boot repair didn't say it needed one and I don't recall ever needing one but the BIOS program does have an EFI setting but it is a hybrid EFI MOBO.

        slightly OT:

LightDM is the default display manager for e.g. Xubuntu (and many other distributions with Xfce) or Linux Mint Cinnamon.
It is not installed in Kubuntu 23.10, because Kubuntu uses the SDDM display manager instead!

Please don't install LightDM - this will very likely only worsen your problems and additionally can break some Plasma functionalities…

It seems today's update fixed my boot problems. I thought it might be something with the display. Looks like NVIDIA had another screwed-up Linux driver. I guess that SDDM couldn't initialize properly. Hopefully, it stays fixed. I checked I checked the journal file that GRUB2 refers to in the rescue mode and everything appeared good except for the onboard audio which I never use so it doesn't concern me. So it was a head-scratcher until I saw all the NVIDIA driver updates in today's update I clicked on some and saw they had more access to the system. I updated and restarted. it finally worked! Finally after weeks of trying to figure it out.

The computer took almost 40 minutes to get going this morning! I think this one is most likely an electrical or electronic problem. It POST then boots eventually but the power light was flashing on and off for about 40 minutes. It started booting two times but the power reset before it got to the desktop. Once the desktop booted completely then the power stopped resetting and hasn't reset since. I already checked to see if anything in the case was loose and the power cord and power strip also appear to be fine.

And if it is not the power but the other light, with those symptoms it could also be a faulty hdd or ssd…

The SSDs are less than a year old so not likely faulty.

Same thing this morning. I think it was closer to 34 minutes today.

… or other USB devices that could be defective?

Why would that be relevant since it boots and dolphin can read all three drives and display their files?

It is a few years old but since it boots... EVENTUALLY - took about two hours today! -, then who knows?
