    USB Causes Display Slow Down & lockup.

    I am enjoying Kubuntu 23.10. However, every-time I insert a USB stick it causes a slow down in desktop activity to the point the screen locks up. It appears I cannot use a USB stick in Kubuntu 23.10.

    Welcome.

    Open the Konsole terminal emulator, enter sudo journalctl -f and leave the Konsole window open.
    Now insert the USB stick and post the last several lines of the output from the above journalctl command here, if something unusual occurs.

      Thanks for the suggestion. I now know the problem. Here are the results:

      Mar 24 16:46:14 boo kernel: [UFW BLOCK] IN=wlp3s0 OUT= MAC=0c:0e:76:1d:eb:04:70:f1:96:53:bc:20:08:00 SRC=192.168.1.254 DST=192.168.1.64 LEN=71 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 T
      TL=64 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=34139 DPT=5353 LEN=51
      Mar 24 16:46:19 boo kernel: [UFW BLOCK] IN=wlp3s0 OUT= MAC=01:00:5e:00:00:01:70:f1:96:53:bc:20:08:00 SRC=192.168.1.254 DST=224.0.0.1 LEN=32 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=
      1 ID=0 DF PROTO=2

      I tried the following: sudo ufw enable. This did help some what but did resolved the problem. It appears it is related to the kernel.

        ufw does not have to do anything with an USB stick - it is a frontend for the iptables/nftables firewall framework and only related to networks.

          UNRESOLVED
          I searched the Ubuntu forums and someone mentioned ufw and how it was related to the firewall. I used sudo ufw enable and removed Kde firewall. This did help but did resolve the problem. Thanks for the help. I enjoyed using Kubuntu.
