Set up pin unlock (but password authentication still)?

I have a computer running Kubuntu 23.04 that I'm using as a htpc AND a home server. I'm trying to make it so that my partner can use the computer without having to enter a complicated password, but still have a proper password for online security reasons (physical access to the computer is well controlled to trusted individuals, and vnc is kept off unless needed). I'd like to set a pin that can be used to unlock the computer. It's not necessary for the pin to be used to log into the computer as the computer doesn't get turned off or signed out, but if enabling pin login is not an issue I'd do that.

I am not seeing the option in settings, but there seems to be a way to add a pin unlock module to the Pam file that kubuntu's unlock screen uses. The problem is that im not really finding a lot of information on which file that is. It seems that it only references common-auth, but so does a few other things. Is it possible to set kscreenlocker to use a different login file then in that case?

Are you running wide open ssh or a http service? User passwords aren't hackable remotely if you don't allow remote access. Why do you think a pin is safer than a password? Isn't a pin just a password in numbers? Why not just set the password as numbers?

What HTPC features are requiring a password or pin?

My NAS also runs Jellyfin (and nextcloud, among other things), which I access from my TV. It has an admin password on the web interface, but once the TV and Roku box have logged in once, just like any paid streaming service's app, I never have a login. You could set up a non-admin user, and use a short password/pin.
You don't need to log out of this account to switch to a different one, such as your normal sudo account.
Of course, there is the usual SSH access to the server, as well as other web based interfaces to various things.

the link you provided is for Ubuntu, which uses pam.d/gdm-password. Kubuntu 23.04 does not use pam.d/gdm-password. The filename is different for each windowing environment, and Kubuntu 23.04 does not use the KDE default of pam.d/kde. I am trying to determine what Kubuntu DOES use. I do use SSH, but only on the local network and not over the internet

I use locking and unlocking to also trigger turning the TV off and the speakers, which need to be turned off separately using additional software and commands. so lock/unlock is used frequently. Also I'm still trying to get some issues resolved such as the tv's touchscreen drivers being ****y-wucky, and switchign accounts and everything making things work has been a royal pain
