Screen tearing and slow redraw after upgrading from 22.04

After upgrading from 22.04 to 22.10, restarted and got screen tearing choppy ui behavior ui elements don't redraw properly. I'm not sure what exactly went wrong but there doesn't seem to be much information about this happening on 22.10. Everything ran smooth with the older version.

My specs are i5 4570, 16 gb of ram, AMD R9 280x gpu, Samsung 970 evo SSD as the boot drive.

Not sure how to diagnose the problem, as I'm pretty new to Linux. Any help would be appreciated, googling didn't seem to have any relevant answers.

What you describe sounds like you are only getting software rendering, and is what I get before I install the Nvidia driver. Which means perhaps an incorrectly installed or configured display driver. But, I would check your monitor settings for a start. Ensure it is at spec. I found mine to be in a mode that is "sorta supported" (75hz horizontal refresh rate) and it too was tearing and choppy.

Unfortunately, I cannot give you specifics about your rig as the only thing we have in common is the SSD (I use AMD CPU/Nvidia GPUs), but the Radeon driver settings page may give you information about your horizontal and vertical refresh rates, dpi, and other physical settings for the display. You will want to see what GPU driver you are using and what support exists for OGL/OCL/Vulkan and so on. That being said, where are you seeing the tearing? Scrolling webpages in a browser, or in videos for example? The KDE desktop is hardware accelerated, as are Firefox and videos (probably via Mesa with a Radeon). If something is not right, it may be falling back to software mode.

More detailed info about your rig can be found in System Settings, at the bottom it says "About" and clicking that will give you basic info, and below that will be a button for more information. Click it. Then go to Detailed Information/Graphics.

You can also install HardInfo (it will be called "System Profiler and Benchmark" in the Kmenu)

    Code:
    sudo apt install hardinfo

inxi is also another great system resource tool It's CLI but gives a wealth of information
      Code:
      sudo apt install inxi
      once install issue this command
      Code:
      inxi -Fxxzr
      and post the output here.

You can see more info on inxi here. https://www.tecmint.com/inxi-command...m-information/

This page may also be of help. Scroll down to the section on amd gpu. https://www.makeuseof.com/fix-screen-tearing-on-linux/

which Graphics card are you using? The output says you have two. Does the same thing happen on both cards?
