Double clicked desktop icon shows something on the taskbar which promptly dissappears

When a desktop icon is double clicked the app's icon starts to appear (as a white document image) on the taskbar for a second or less; then disappears.

I've seen this for all file types that I've tried so far. However, when I right click on an icon and select Open then the appropriate app comes up and stays up; with the app's icon appearing on the taskbar.

A bug or mis-configuration on my part? I've recently switched from an Arch/XFCE based distro to Kubuntu, so I am leaning towards the problem being self-inflicted. Any pointers for troubleshooting more deeply are welcomed.

Is your Layout using Folder View or Desktop? Also, how are you adding app icons to the Desktop?

I have the same problem since update to 22.10.

      Adding app to Desktop with:
      Application launcher
      right-mouse-click to app
      add to Desktop

How to Debug? There is no Error in System-Logs.
Start from application launcher works well.

Is this a problem of authorizations

Doing exactly that on my 22.10 'works'; I double-click on the app icon (Kate in my case) and the application launches as expected. If you right-click on the icon and click Properties, under General, what is the full content in Points to:?

Thanks to those who have replied and apologies for the late'ish response. Life gets in the way more often than any of us would like.

Snowhog: According to the Wallpaper settings I am in Folder View. What I did was to create new LibreCalc file on the desktop and then edit it. That is an example of what I double click on and nothing happens. Also, I am not putting the apps on the desktop, only documents. This includes creating them directly on the desktop; or copying a link for a document that lives in a folder to the desktop.

eriosw: As mentioned above, I not launching apps per se, just double clicking on apps' documents.

Opening a linked file does not work either. But it seems to have the same cause. If I go to the file with the mouse, right-click and open with, then I can open the file.

Doing exactly that here, the desktop .ods file opens in LibreOffic Calc when double-clicked.

If you create a new user and log in with it, does this behavior persist? If 'no', then there is something wrong in the affected users /home directory.

                  Problem solved
When starting the program with a double click, wslu was always called. After uninstalling wslu the program start from the desktop works.
