    [RESOLVED] System Upgrade constantly shows in discover

    [RESOLVED]: needed to reinstall the `packagekit` package using synaptic (filtered by "broken") and now the system upgrade item is no longer pending in discover and my system is still on 22.04 where i want it.

    using 22.04 LTS but with both backports and backports extra enabled.

    configured my system try to hide the KDE demon

    but the discover icon constantly shows there are updates even when the only "update" the upGRADE to 24.04... which i do not want to do on this machine.

    i've also configured the discover > settings > software settings > updates tab > release upgrade section > set to Never.

    yet i cannot quell this nagging insistence.

    how do i turn this off?

    is it because i have backports enabled that i can't seem to turn it off?

    this is what `sudo apt update` looks like

    ```
    Pretty sure you meant to say "using 22.04 LTS ..." as your sources are all for Jammy. But, you posted this in 24.04 Noble Numbat (LTS). That, and you said "...upGRADE to 24.04... which i do not want to do on this machine."
    I've moved this to to Kubuntu 22.04 Jammy Jellyfish (LTS) > Software Support and corrected the version number in the first sentence.
        Honestly, I'm not clear on exactly what you want turned off. If you have 8 updates pending, the Discover should show that.
        I have know idea what this means: "configured my system try to hide the KDE demon"
          the KDE demon that big orange upgrade button in the system tray, i've set it to always hidden so it's tucked out of sight at least.
          but have to uncheck system upgrade in discover every time there are updates so that it doesn't try to upgrade the system
          if i let it try then i get this
          Click image for larger version  Name:	Screenshot_20250104_125900.png Views:	0 Size:	22.2 KB ID:	684717
          and when i run `sudo dpkg --configure -a`, i get this.
          ```
          dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of packagekit-tools:
          packagekit-tools depends on packagekit (= 1.2.5-2ubuntu3); however:
          Package packagekit is not installed.

          dpkg: error processing package packagekit-tools (--configure):
          dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
          Errors were encountered while processing:
          packagekit-tools

          ```
          i would rather not be bothered with any of this.
          UPDATE: used synaptic to reinstall the packagekit package and now i no longer get the dpkg error
            By "system upgrade" if you mean "Release Upgrade" then edit /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades and change Prompt=lts to prompt=never
              Your dpkg lock message means you interrupted a package upgrade and you need to fix that before you can upgrade or install anything.
