Just to reiterate vioke: Had the dpkg issue on my regular Kubuntu and on my "curated" Kubuntu Focus system.
On the regular Kubuntu:
Restart
sudo apt -f install packagekit
Restart
Opened Discover: dpkg no longer in the update list
Ran Discover: all other updates installed
All OK, and thank you all.
The Focus is next.
