    About running OpenShot

    Hi all,

Is there any problem running OpenShot on Kubuntu 24.04 ?

I have been running OpenShot, both installed on repo and running AppImage, on Ubuntu (20.04 and 22.04) for prolonged period without problem. Until recently it always forces me to close the package. I'm now prepared to run OpenShot on Kubuntu 22.04 or 24.04.

    Please advise. Thanks

Besides, which OpenShot package shall I use, installed on repo or AppImage.

    Regards

Try it and find out what works best for you. Using Ubuntu or Kubuntu should not make a difference, since they are the same OS.
Openshot went without development for at least a year, though it has seen a decent upgrade recently - the previous release was very buggy imo.

Appimage vs Deb vs Flatpak or Snap is completely up to you. The Appimage will look more like Gnome, so it visually might not "fit" Plasma's look very well, in terms of icons.

      Hi,

      Thanks for your reply.

I have been running OpenShot on Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 for prolonged time, more than 10 years at least, editing Video without problem. It just happened lately. The needle pointer doesn't move, standing permanently, but video continues to display on the preview window.

      I have tried
      Appimage
      Daily build version
      Ubutun repo version
      Flatpak version

      All have the same problem.

      Regards

        What about their PPA?
The Ubuntu repo version will be older, that is what I use, but only with limited experience on 24.04 at the moment. The PPA arguably is the most compatible with 24.04.

I'd also look at the specific versions you had in 22.04 for Openshot, and find Appimages that match. Openshot did go through a recent phase with a buggy version, and lack of updates. The previous version you were using in 22.04 might a a useful option.

You also might want to remove any config files, to reset all app settings to default.

Would OpenShot PPA version be similar to daily-built version?

I have tried 2 daily-built versions. Same problem remains, the needle pointer on track not moving.

Appimages have all dependencies and codecs, etc included, and are designed to work on any distro and distro version. PPA packages are built specifically for each *buntu release, so use system components made for that version.
The regular PPA has official releases, not the recent git 'pre-release' code that makes the daily builds.
            https://launchpad.net/~openshot.deve...ive/ubuntu/ppa
There is a daily PPA, linked to from the normal PPA

FGor appimage vs debs, they might have different bugs, something like that, since they use different support libraries. Personally, the PPA packages have had fewer bugs in my personal experience, and allow for hardware encoding that wasn't available via appimage. YMMV

New bugs you see are the reason I suggest trying the versions of Openshot that worked for you before, especially since they keep appimages for all of these, so you can try them out to see if they still work for you.

I don't see the issue you are, and didn't quickly notice any bug reports, though I only took a short glance
