    Discover Software Center Issues

Greetings to all. I am running Kubuntu 22.04.4 LTS x86_64 and it’s been great and stable for the last few years but I have a problem with the Discover Software Center. In the top left corner it says “Applications” “Application Addons” and “Plasma Addons” and when I click on any of these choices Discover just shuts down.

At the bottom is says “Installed” “Settings” “About” and “Up to date”. All of these choices work just fine but not the ones up top.
I have googled and searched the internet for suggestions and answers to no avail. I uninstalled the Discover Center and all dependencies and re-installed it and the 3 buttons or choices at the top left still will not work.

I want to have a functioning Discover Center and the only thing I can come up with is to reinstall the never version of Kubuntu, Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. I would rather not do this if I didn’t have to. I have backed up all my files to USB thumb drives and did a TimeShift backup to a USB thumb drive. I have listed all personally installed software and applications so I’m ready to go.

Actually I like Discover but it is the only thing I have really had a major problem with. A few weeks ago it was locking up and then this. It has always been a little glitchy for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do at this point? I’m all out of ideas myself. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't happen on 24.04 here. Verify that you have these packages installed:

    plasma-discover-common
    plasma-discover-backend-twupd
    plasma-discover-backend-snap
    plasma-discover-notifier
    plasma-discover
    libndp0
    python3-pkg-resources

Also, create a new user and log in with that user and see if Discover behaves the same or normally.

I’ve done everything you suggested including creating a new user and the same thing happens. I think it’s time for me to just reinstall and start out with a clean slate. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Before you do that, try reinstalling Discover. Open a konsole and type: sudo apt reinstall plasma-discover

Many thanks. I just tried that and it doesn't work. I also uninstalled Discover and all Discovery files and reinstalled. I may have made a mistake a command line at some point to break it but I'm not sure. I will be getting the newer version of Kubuntu 24.04. I'm ready to do this. Thanks again.
