Amarok updates not updating anything

For some time now, periodically Discover offers the same updates for Amarok, mentioning what I understand is version 2.9.81. I proceed with the update but Amarok is always at the same previous version (2.9.71).
What are this updates and why are not being applied?

Have you tried updating via the command line? sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

Where are you getting Amarok from? it hasn't been in any official repos for quite a few years now as there hasn't been a Plasma 5 version released, and development on it has been glacial at best.. I am wondering if whatever reop that provides it may be borked, or just have poorly configured packages.

Yes, I have. All seems normal and the process completes just OK but when I open Amarok nothing is changed.

amarok kde5 version. This is not an official Amarok PPA. The Amarok kde5 version is pre-alpha and still under development. Expect crashes. Use at your own risk.

i am going to also guess that you may have installed Amarok 2.9.71 form a different source than the current PPA you .?
That PPA does not appears to hav had anything older than 2.9.80, in 2019.
Without seeing what your apt update and apt full-upgrade output shows for errors or messaging about Amarok (or any other problems), I can only suggest uninstalling all amarok and its related packages, updating your ssytem, then try to install it again. I am goiung to guess that there are pacakge conflicts between whatever ancient Amarok version you have and the current automatic builds from that person's PPA

One thing that might be happening here -- the versioning may simply be showing incorrectly in the application itself, considering that it is still pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha code
Where are you seeing 2.9.71, and where does 2.9.81 show up?

What does Discover or Muon show as the installed *package* version? ( or apt policy amarok)?
This PPA does regular pulls from the git source code, so should see quite regular updates, anywhere from a few days to a week or two between package builds, depending on how often the source code is updated.

In software versioning, it is common to use very high numbers at the end to denote different states of early development, and I wonder if the application's UI simply is not showing the correct minor sub-version.

I probably installed 2.9.71 version from a different source than the PPA maintainer, I don't remember but it sounds quite likely.
apt policy amarok shows:

So it appears that update did applied and, for some reason (probably because it's so pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha code ) it's not showing in the "About Amarok" menu entry.
