As most (some) have realized, I did an upgrade to 24.04 and it SNAFU my whole PC. It has taken nearly a month to get it working... SORT of...to... Almost...
Since I upgraded then "ran (run) (executed)" things like Thunderbird, I was unable to return to previous 20.04 or even 22.04 versions of Kubuntu to access the data. This was also with Lucky-backup... Maybe others.
My main concerns in order were (I have managed to resolve (some of) them, thanks to all that gave advice, suggestions, or sparked some idea within me)
1. Yubikey - MFA on multiple accounts. KFN wasn't MFA protected, so most of my posts were here, even if off topic.. Thanks to all for their patience with me. Appreciated and my Thanks.
2. Thunderbird-mail
3. Lucky Backup and resucezilla for a entire drive backup
4. Others. Either haven't found yet, or was easy to fix.
Fixed
1 - By installing and using yubioath... NOT yubidesktop. (Still asks for a password to access the yubikey, even thou a password doesn't exist or was even previously asked for or entered.)
2 - By creating a VM of 24.04.2 and installing TB && using TB on the VM.. (Runs very slowly... Mouse difficult to use)
Any How
My PC is now running 22.04.6. {Fresh install 20.04.00, then upgraded, then do-dist-upgrade to 22.04}
Virtual Box 6.1 (no version 7.1 available), butt I could do a manual, which usually leads to a something going wrong in the future
Thunderbird running from a VM with 24.04.2 because the files were "locked" to that version
Thunderbird is running Okay. Send & receive Okay.
I created the shared folder using Virtual Box guide(s). On the Host machine (my PC running 22.04.6) the folder I have full <user> read write and group is me <user>. Same as any other folder. I have even chown and chmod the <SharedFolder> to make sure
On the VM Guest it is <root user> and <vboxsf> group.
Q- Is this correct? I ask as it's been quite awhile since I had a VM running due to the Kubuntu OS strangling my system resources due to built in added stuff..
PROBLEMs This Post
Backing up via Lucky Backup keeps coming up with errors. usually permission denied (1).
--> I can copy and paste from Thunderbird DATA folder to VM shared Folder, no problems.
Q- Why would LB be having issues with rsync ?
Q- Specifically unable to read or unable to write?
Also Noticed.. I was checking if I was backing up all the data, and noticed something in the /Download folder..... <thunderbird.tmp> keeps getting created in /Downloads folder every-time I use Thunderbird
Q- Is this normal ?
TRIED
I've set (within Guest 24.04) full user rights <user> <user group> to the Thunderbird DATA folder (just to make sure)
Problem 2
Updates. My "update sources" still read Focal (v20.04) not Jammy (22.04) && Yes I am aware it is no longer supported.
Q- How do I tell my system to use Jammy updates ?
OVERALL WHY.
I am currently trying to put together money to purchase a new PC.
If I am successful, I am keen on just coping the /snap folder (Yes If I remember I'll do an export and a backup (if I can get LB to work correctly) oh and a clone of the VM, and copy the data folder to the "new" computer. Hopefully it should work
TIA KFN.
