    22.04 LTS Released

So I guess it's semi-offical now https://kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-22-04-lts-released/ I'm still taking the conservative response and wait for 20.04 LTS to be upgraded.

Just be aware, LTS upgrade notifications are not usually turned on for some time (July-ish?). Sometimes for a long time.
Just in case you do get impatient

Normally I EOL (it's a verb, now) LTS releases and 20.04 was a stellar one with just 1 bug and 1 annoyance for me. 22.04 fixed the bug so I jumped early this time. As always, many thanks to the team.

So far I have no real problems with Kubuntu and I intend to keep it that way.

Just threw it on a USB stick and tried it on my old ThinkPad. It looks and performs great. Looks like Linux Mint will be replaced!

That was short lived. Too much Snap stuff on it, including Firefox. Back to Mint....

I assume you know you can just remove snap and all it's junk - happens in just a couple seconds. That's a Canonical decision and not Kubuntu devs, but one would think they could remove snap in their releases. Probably some "legal" reason why they can't.

After removing all Snap crud I couldn't install the dependencies for Chrome. I need to spend more time on this...

That seems odd. I don't have snap-anything installed yet Chrome is up to date.

He doesn't tell us how/where he got Chrome. Statements without context bug me.

I'm going to be installing Ubuntu Studio now they are using KDE as their desktop. At the moment I used their addon on top of Kubuntu but the actual distro has been upgraded. First task on install, removing snap Although I need to compile some sort of list before I uninstall of configs and customising.

Great release so far so good. Working well here I did a new Install instead of upgrading. Everything working fine.
only glitch is I use Vivaldi and as in the Daily builds and Beta QApt finds it's missing a dependency and won't install it but I just manually installed with dpkg and it's working fine also.
Not sure what dependency QApt thinks is missing. Other than that everything is working.

                          LOL, me too.

This worked perfectly here on a new 22.04 install:

                          wget https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/g...rent_amd64.deb
                          sudo apt update
                          sudo apt install google-chrome-stable

                          No additional dependencies required.

Removing snap just as easy: https://www.kubuntuforums.net/forum/...347-de-snaping

Cool. Glad to see this distro is still moving forward and offering Plasma desktop. IIRC a few years back it rather languished.
