    Kubuntu Won't Install At All.

The title says it all. I downloaded the Kubuntu ISO from your website and burnt it do a DVD. But when I try to install it it won't install.
What happens is that it does boot up and I get to the screen that says" Try Kubuntu live or install" I click that option but it just does not boot into the live VD or install at all. I have try all the other boot options it says on the screen but the same thing happens.

It's not my laptop because both my laptops are 64 bit able because they both use to have Windows 64 bit. And I have Linux Mint on one and Unbuntu on the other (both 64 Bit) so it's not because of that.
So I don't understand why Kubuntu won't install as I have installed other Linux Distros on my laptop in the past and I have never had this problem.
So I think it could be the ISO that is faulty since I cannot get it to install. I don't have a flash drive but I do have an DVD Drive on one of my laptops the other I don't but I have an external DVD drive for that. So that should not be a problem. But Kubuntu still won't install.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Attempting to burn and use a LiveDVD is problematic. Nearly anyone will recommend you create a LiveUSB. Flash drives are rather cheap (as in cost), so if you can obtain one of at least 4GB (bigger would be better), you can burn the ISO to it and try again. Again, trying to create a useable LiveDVD is just problematic.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

But I have always installed Linux that way. It has never been a problem before. One of my laptops is an HP Pavilion which has a DVD drive. I have had that laptop since 2016 which originally came with Windows 8.1 64 bit and secure boot which I have disabled.
My other laptop is a new one HP Ceylon which does not have any DVD drive. But I can attach one when I want to install as I did with Linux Mint on that one. Both are 64 bit compatible so I don't know why there is a problem.

I have I used XF burn on Linux to burn the DVD and when Kubuntu did not boot I tried it on Windows 8.1 with the Windows Disk burner but I still have the same problem. So there could be a fault in the ISO. I have also tried alternative downloads and burned that ISO but I still cannot install or boot it. Same problem.

The problem is, as optical media is used less and less, and Linux iso images get larger and larger, there is the unfortunate combination of a very steep drop-off in users testing the images using DVDs as well as the larger image size providing more bits that can become corrupted during a burn. More places for something to fail. And that is before taking into consideration the overall age of these optical drives. They have a definite lifespan before the laser stops being able to reliably write bits and bytes.

Please, do use a USB thumb drive. They are far better tested, much more reliable, re-usable, will cost less, and will produce arguably much less waste, at least in terms of mass and plastic.

For what it is worth, burning CDs and DVDs has never been reliable and consistent, in my long experience of having done so, Back In the Days of Yore.

I went so far as to have multiple brands of burners, and multiple brands and types of media, on top of multiple applications to burn with (tho this part was seldom useful)
One distro's images liked -r disks, another's like +r ones. Slow the burn speed down. Crap like that. Not to mention replacing drives more often than one would like to admit

I have also booted and installed Debian which is a very large ISO and install on both PC's and that has always installed and booted live. So I don't see why it should not be the same for Kubuntu.
I have Linux Mint installed on one laptop and Linux Mint on the other at the moment.
Both installed by DVD but I cannot boot Kubuntu it gets as far as the text then that's it.

Could it be that maybe Kubuntu cannot be installed by DVD as I have come across some Linux distros can can only be downloaded by torrent and installed that way.
With the DVD install if something goes wrong with my OS and I have to reinstall I can just bot and do it from the DVD. That's why I use that method of install because I have always done it that way.

Sure, but it may well be very unlikely that it will get fixed, if they can even discover why it isn't working for some people to begin with.
Next time around, it might well be Debian that stops working, or something like that. Distros don't all use the same methods in creating their images, which of course just adds to the mess.

In any case, you would have to report this as a bug on Ubuntu's Launchad bug tool, or look for more technical eyeballs on askubuntu, and hope that there are enough people who are also seeing doing the same thing so that hopefully a volunteer can dive in and discover why.

But I thought Kubuntu was separate from Ubuntu in that they have their own site and ISO's. So I though we could report it there.

What I have done though is I have installed the Kubuntu Desktop Environment along with the KDE Plasma it comes with on Both Linux Mint and Ubuntu.
And I was able to remove the Cinnamon Desktop on Linux Mint so I don't have two desktops. The system says Kubuntu When I look on System Information but it's still Linux Mint with Kubuntu KDE Plasma.

It is working well and is the next best thing for me to having Kubuntu. But I think this way of doing it may be taking up more space on the hard drive than it would if I could just install Kubuntu.

On Ubuntu I still have the Ubnuntu Desktop as well as Kubuntu because I think it would cause problems if I were to remove Ubnuntu. But they both work very well. And I think I am getting mostly the full Kununtu experience. It's not the perfect solution but the best I can do until the issue with the Kubuntu ISO gets fixed.
