New release '22.04.1 LTS' installation issue

I use RamNode for one of my cloud servers. I use Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.4.0-124-generic x86_64).

I received this message when I logged in last night: New release '22.04.1 LTS' available. Run 'do-release-upgrade' to upgrade to it.

Everything else has worked well, so I started it.

I got asked ALL kinds of questions along the way; I accepted the defaults.

When it finished, everything looked OK.

This morning, I looked at one of my sites and php was NOT operating!

I have reloaded a snapshot and updated security.

I see the message: New release '22.04.1 LTS' available. Run 'do-release-upgrade' to upgrade to it.

There is no way in hell I am going through that again!

If a suitable upgrade cannot be provided, I think I need to change to another base server program.

Is there anyone working on this?

    What is RamNode?
Also, running Ubuntu Server, you might get better help by also seeking a more server-focused place, as most of us here are focused on the desktop, and Plasma (Kubuntu). Maybe Ubuntu's forums?

Ok, maybe with RamNode, you may have to see if they have any special instructions for upgrading the OS on their VPS servers? Have you filed a support ticket, or used any of their other support options (IRC and Discord chats)?

In any case, without many more details, it will, be hard for anyone to determine what has happened.

Any error messages in the php or web server logs

This isn't normally the case, to have a ton of questions, but that depends entirely on the specific servers and services you are running -- I am going to guess that one or more of the questions related to your customized settings for PHP, web servers, etc, and that accepting the defaults blindly has overwritten your configurations with the stock, default ones?

Again, without knowing exactly what you did, and exactly what the questions you blindly accepted, it will be impossible to say which things were the culprits.

In any case, this really has little to do with Kubuntu, though we will try to offer as much assistance as we are able to.

You are free to keep using Ubuntu Server 20.04, it is supported for a few years still.
But if you do decide to try it again, you will have to investigate and document what each step is doing, what configuration each question involves, and document things as you go. There unfortunately is no hand-holding, and it is simply doing the things you tell it to do.

I didn't mean to get so aggressive. And you are correct, I think I'm in the wrong place to discuss this issue. Thanks for the advice.

Kubuntu isn't offered at RamNode as an operating system. I understand that now. I use Vultr as well for my cloud-based webserver. I wrote a tutorial about it here:

      apache tutorial dot com

Let me ask you a question: Can Kubuntu be dual-booted with Windows?

        Most definitely.
        As can any Linux distro.

A good general overview of what the process looks like:
        https://userbase.kde.org/Kubuntu/Installation

There are tons of videos and web pages about dual booting, and the process is pretty much identical to doing so with Ubuntu desktop. However, most of them actually do things a little bit harder than is needed, as the installer can automatically resize Windows and all that, without needing to do custom partition creation from within Windows or anything like that.
